Default Ramp difficulties

Does anyone else's Chinese have this problem?

Since I adopted Tinky I've noticed he has a peculiar habit with ramps and elevated things. He refuses to go up ramps PERIOD. He'll start up just a few steps and then stop and has never made it up the ramp in his cage to my knowledge (he's probably doing that when I'm not there :P ).

At first I thought it was just too steep so I lowered it but he refuses to go up it, even if I put some of his food on the higher rungs he'll still climb the wire bars up and go across the platform and SLIDE down the ramp thus knocking his food into his bedding where he'll pouch it and wander off to eat it.

I had thought it might be that he'd never experienced a ramp before and with some exposure he'd get the hang of it but he hasn't .

Or maybe he thinks it's a slide because he won't walk down the ramp either. He kind of lays on his belly and wiggles (like soldiers do when they're crawling to an attack) down the slide. He does seem to like doing it or else he's afraid to walk down the ramp.

Default Bizarre

Wow that is so bizarre, but totally cute I would imagine

I cannot say any of my Chinese hamsters have any issues with ramps - they run up and down the stairs fine, although they do prefer to monkey-bar everywhere across the roof of their Dunas if they can

That does seem odd!

My labrador is scared of stairs - he's perfectly capable of getting up and down them (he's fine with steps outdoors) but he refuses completely and won't go near stairs indoors, the silly billy. So maybe Tinky has similar feelings about ramps, you never know? Like you said you've adopted him, he might not have seen ramps before and is too stuck in his ways. Or maybe he just likes commando-crawling and sliding!

Perhaps he just can't get a good grip on the ramp? I have a plastic one in my hamsters cage that she doesn't use, although I rarely bother standing it up because she just knocks it down and I'm worried she might hurt herself when it falls! But the one I've got is plastic and doesn't have much to grab on to in order to climb it.

Like Babyboos, she just seems to climb up and down her cage walls, particularly when she wants a treat

She does the belly wiggling thing too - but I call it skiing She skis down my arms and legs after she's climbed her way up them, it's so funny to watch, I love it! Actively encourage it, in fact! Hehe
