Habitrail Ovo
Fiz recently made a thread showing his set up. I feel in love with it. It looks great. I see on Petco.com everything except the loft is about 48 U.S. dollars. I think its a fair price for a pretty good looking cage. Then I look for a loft, and on amazon.com the loft costs almost 60 bucks. What do you guys think about this cage? Is fit for one or two winter whites, or 1-2 robos? I'm just already dying to get this cage. Can you guys tell me what you think, cause Im reading the reviews on Petco half like it half don't.

Re: Habitrail Ovo
there seems to be a lot of threads about this recently!
basically i personally would avoid it, but since in america you might struggle to find other cages, with a good sized set up it is OK.
Although i would only put one dwarf in it to avoid fighting and because of the room availible.

Re: Habitrail Ovo
This is an ok cage Sammy, and as FM says its one of the better ones in america. I would strongly recommend getting the loft aswell - as this is the component that provides the larger floor area. Also the tubes will have to be laid horizontal not vertical as dwarfs will struggle to climb the tubes if put vertically as seen in most of the pics of this cage.

Re: Habitrail Ovo
Sammy, I have heard that compartmentalized cages like the Ovo are not good for more than 1 dwarf because the dwarfs can become territorial over certain pods and end up fighting over them. The advice I saw was that they should be used for only one dwarf.
I see the Loft on ebay very often in the UK. You should have a look on ebay US. Amazon can be very expensive for hamster items, I have noticed. Also try posting a Craigslist wanted ad (or if you are young, have a parent do it) saying you want a Habitrail Ovo Loft. I had good luck with posting Craigslist ads for items I wanted, when I lived in the USA. I am positive you can find it cheaper than on Amazon.
Again just be aware that you may need to change out the nest bedding (tissue, etc) every day if you see that it is becoming damp from the hamster's breath as it sleeps. Check the bedding every single day.
I got all my stuff on sale so it cost about half as much as it would have if i had purchased it on amazon - keep your eye out for good sales (try using the Google Shopping tab) online and for coupons (try retailmenot.com for those).

Re: Habitrail Ovo
Thanks Fiz. The setup of the ovo you posted. Is a cage for a dwarf or a just a play area. Also me and Sammy have had some great times with playtime with only 2 weeks of handling, and still no bites.

Re: Habitrail Ovo
Hi
We have the ovo dwarf one and it looks bigger in real life than the pictures, the main pod is a fair size without the wheel....... the wheel is a bit big in my opinion but we love it on the whole and our dwarf hamster seems to enjoy the tubes and climbs them well now.
We took out the wheel and replaced it with a smaller silent spinner.
the tubes lock together and are strong, you can also add pods. Hamsters in the wild live in confined spaces, tunnels and pod like sleeping dens. As long as your hamster comes out of it's cage daily for exercise and being held then the ovo is fine.

This is the one we have got, and is the one for robo's or dwarfs the tubes are narrower
