everything else in the tank is fine, it has deep bedding (16 inches), plenty of enrichment, and many other things. everything is good, other than that finding the hammy for his metacam is kinda hard sometimes, because he spends like from 5am-11pm in his burrows.

Do you think it would be ok to house a dwarf in a 20 gallon for a few days, and then upgrade it to a 75 gallon?

As long as it is only for a few days. The hamster might not be too happy about being in a small space, but I have had rescue hamsters in small cages for a few days until they can go to their new larger homes.

If they’re coming from a smaller cage to the 20 gallon I imagine it’ll be okay. When I got my first dwarf, he started in a small ‘starter’ cage and then he got upgraded about a week later and he was quite happy. Just make sure you use the space effectively (e.g. upright wheel over saucer, small food bowl, toys that don’t take up the whole cage).
