Default A review of the ferplast Circus fun cage

Type of cage: Ferplast Circus Fun-Assorti

Price range: seems to ranging from 50 to 65 euro's.

Secondhand's around 15-20 euro.

Size: 49,5-34-42,5 cm.

You get around 1683 square cm of groundspace with this cage. This is really tiny!

Here are the measurements in inches. So you can check if you want to: 20 by 13 inch, lengths and dept. You can measure the total groundspace if you want, I am not really sure how to do this for inches.

What you get with this cage:

- grey house
- two blue platforms
- feeding bowl and waterbottle
- two slides
- A tiny wheel
-Circus themed sticker sheet

Things I liked about this cage:

Ehm....one thing that's alright with this cage is that wheel is relatively silent in my case. You can connect this cage to other Ferplast items, but I still think it's better for a hamster to have large cage with a great amount of groundspace then multiple tiny ones connected.

Now for the bad stuff:

How did you get your's?

It was a second hand one. Just two days ago I picked up a lovely syrian hamster. The family had wanted a second hamster after the first died, but this current one 'was not good enough.' and basically it was treated like a living ornament from here on out that got basic care but not much else. It made me kind of sad on my way home.
She came with this cage and all of her stuff. I've wanted to do a review for a bad cage for some time now, and this was my chance.

Experiences with this cage:

The shape's really awkward when you try to assemble it. I tried to assemble it, but you have to put the platforms and slide in a certain way, or else nothing fits! Plastic quality is meh, not the worst I've seen but still for a very famous brand of cages it's bad. The shape also, even with all items removed, makes it hard to be creative. There's just not enough room to work with here. Items have to be rounded to be even of use. The wheel is really tiny, around 15 cm or barely 6 inch.
Not deep enough for a lot of substrate either.

For this review, I decided to make a few pictures. One is of this cage atop one of my Barney-cages, to compare shape and sizes.
The other ones are taken with the help of my Syrian hamsters Bayou and Princess Tiamat Floofbutt, first of her name. To give you an idea of how this cages and items look like when there's a Syrian hamster in it. Princess couldn't even fit inside the wheel.

The last one is of the hamster that lived inside of this cage. I am out of town this weekend, but I tried to make her a bit more comfortable in the meanwhile. After I return, she will move in to a Barney of her own.

I'm not really sure what to do with this cage. I don't want so sell it, I guess I could clean it out and place it in the hamster playpen as a novelty item for the hammies to explore?

In short: Not recommended.

Honestly that cage should be banned. It might make a hospital cage for a sick hamster as it's big enough to build a nest in. Or as you say a play cage to put a hamster in while you're doing a clean out. But I think it's even a bit small for a play cage! I guess you could put it inside the Barney and have it as a Wendy house

Yeah, I'm probably going to stick it in my playpen with the doors open at alle times.
My playpen is a wooden one with mesh, meant for bunnies but really nice for hamsters.

But a hospital cage isn't a bad idea either.
