Question Multipul cages.

I currently have 3 cages for my dwarf Russian.

Someone has just told me on fb that i need to buy her a bigger cage as at least one needs to be 480 square inches?

I have her starter cage that she was sent into the pet store with (she's an adopt) which is 225 SI (Square iches)

A pets at home "large" that is 245 SI and a little DIY cave like cage under her starter cage that is 243.25 SI ?

With all the different levels in all of them (platforms only not toys or tubes)
It brings her total floor/ platform space up to 990-1008 SI

Shes currently happy in this and uses all of her cages.

However, is having three cages all connected not the same as having one big one?

Is it worse? Is it better?

Her taming is coming on quite well now that she has all this space so i dont think she's unhappy?

-Ps i currently have her bedding as "natural wool" and i find it easy to break up and I've heard some good reviews? It's not cotton wool as far as i know and i would like to keep her on it as she really enjoys it-

Well as long as your hamster is happy about the cage, I don't think it's quite of a problem.

I was told that the minimum guidelines for the minimum cage size has been removed and now depends on the hamsters well-being, like does she like the cage or if stressed.

Generally one large area is preferable to multiple smaller areas but if your ham is happy with her set up & you can get all she needs including an appropriate size wheel then I wouldn't worry.
If you're not sure what the natural wool is then I wouldn't use it, stick to paper, the best thing for nests is shredded up plain white toilet tissue, they love it & it's totally safe.

I wouldn't use any kind of wool - too risky (do you mean like kapok?)

The Pets at home large cage is a bit on the small side, but does she seem happy in her set up? Yes generally they mean one floorspace size without counting add on cages. Some dwarf hamsters are apparently happier in a not so large cage.

Personally I think add on cages don't benefit them as much as having one cage with a larger floor space. The more floorspace they have in one cage, the more they can have normal behaviours - digging, moving substrate around etc.

You may find that if you put everything (wheel, house, food water) in the main cage she wouldn't bother going in the others. If the wheel is in a different cage she will have to go through tubes to get to it.

I think if your dwarf hammy is happy and has out of cage time then the large pets at home hamster cage with the add-ons may be ok.

But ideally one larger cage would be better - where she can enjoy having house, wheel, toys, levels etc in one area and still have floorspace.

Definitely don't use fluffy bedding or wool bedding though - natural doesn't mean it's safe for hamsters!
