Default Best Cage for Syrians?

I got my 10 week old syrian from Pets at Home last Saturday and obviously, I needed a cage to put him in when I got home so had to buy one at the same time. The largest cage in the shop was their 'large wire hamster cage' at 59cm X 38cm X 30cm. So, I purchased it.

I realise this is not big enough, so I need to buy another permanent cage pronto. Also, the wheel is clearly going to be too small for him once he is bigger.

Can anyone recommend me a big hamster cage? If it comes with a large wheel, that is brilliant. If not, I can buy a freestanding one.

I am in England.

Zooplus sell a few excellent cages. There is the Alexander, Barney, Hamster Heaven and Alaska. Each would be suitable, depending on budget and space. You will need to buy a freestanding wheel as I have never seen an 11 inch wheel sold in a cage. The Silent Runner would be perfect. The Pets At Home wheel included in the wire cage will be too small even for a baby Syrian so I recommend getting one as soon as possible to prevent spinal damage.

Just looking at the Silent Runner on Zooplus. It seems to come in 2 sizes: 28cm by 7cm, or 20cm by 6cm. Would either be fine for a fully grown Syrian?

Go for the 28cm one. Its saves you having to buy another one in a few months when they grow out of that one too. Ive learnt that the hard way, i have 6 wheels for 1 hamster and only 1 is suitable

Check local gumtree etc for cages I got a zoo zone 2 which is a good size for £15! I just meshed the lid.
But really worth looking at for cages and also for wheels I started mine in a hamster heaven with silent spinner ball and carry case for £35!

The Silent Runner is not a 28 cm wheel nor is it available on Zooplus.I do know there's a wood one there, but it really isn't completely safe as people have had issues with wood wheels causing serious injury The size isn't really that good either, being something that doesn't cover every possible Syrian size.A 12 inch Silent Runner is significantly larger, the safest on the market, and actually covers any Syrian size so you'd never need to buy a bigger wheel

There's also a plastic 28 cm wheel from Zooplus.Again, not the Silent Runner, and it really isn't anywhere near the quality or safety you'd get from investing in a Silent Runner. For example the plastic of the wheel would be flimsier, there's an axle(can cause serious injury, the Silent Runner does not have one of course),and the stand is open(unlike the superior Silent Runner). The open stand is actually quite dangerous and problematic,so while being a cheap and seemingly good option it really isn't as great as it sounds Plus, those are known to be fairly loud(the Silent Runner is silent and stays silent).

Silent Runner 12 Inch

That would be the real Silent Runner, which as you can see does cost considerably more but is actually worth the extra cost(unlike for example Silent Spinners which are ridiculously overpriced for something that may work for a few months if you're lucky)and is far superior to other wheels on the market. While it is currently out of stock,it is worth waiting for.

Edited so the link is there! It can be very confusing, especially being a product which cannot be purchased from usual pet stores(online or otherwise).
