Re: Best Cage for Syrians?
There's only a couple of UK sites that sell the silent runner although sometimes you can find them on ebay.
It seems to be in stock here.

Re: Best Cage for Syrians?
I have the barney cage from zooplus for two of my syrian hamsters and the borneo xxl from amazon de (german amazon site) for my other syrian.
My roborovski has the alaska cage (zooplus). The alaska and the borneo are wonderful because they are sooo easy to access with big front and top doors.

Re: Best Cage for Syrians?
I'd go for the Barney for a syrian, although it doesn't have a nice large door like the alaska it is that bit bigger so probably the better of the two.
Sadly the Borneo no longer ships to the UK.

Re: Best Cage for Syrians?
Thanks all for the help. I just have one question remaining: does moving a hamster to a new cage freak them out and make them all skittish? I know it always takes hamsters a while to settle in when they first get home. Will Mushu suddenly become less tame after moving into a new cage?

They will be a bit nervous and unsettled at first, but as long as you move all his bedding over to the new cage, and keep his setup generally the same, he should settle fairly quickly

Good to know. Will he become wary of being handled again too? Or just nervous about the new cage?

Re: Best Cage for Syrians?
It's best to let them settle again almost as if they've just come home as it can take them a while to adjust, they don't normally get scared of being handled but may hide away a bit more as they settle.
You can try setting up the new cage & giving them some play time in it before moving them over & should always use the substrate, nest material & other familiar things from the old cage, don't clean the old one for at least a couple of weeks before the change so everything you do swap over still has his scent on it.
