Default I can't open hamster cage!

This may sound stupid but I am looking after a hamster for a friend of a friend, and I can't open the top of the cage. Its a fop plastic cage with yellow sliding clips that seem like they should just slide and open the wire door on top, but they don't go far enough to release the door.
I have had hamsters before and want to be able to put my hand in to let him get used to me before i lift him out. (btw I can open the base clips in order to feed him!) This is really frustrating and its driving us crazy - help please!!
Thank you

You may just want to detach the base whenever you would like to pull him out of the cage. From personal experience, messing with clips that won't move very well can result in a damaged cage! A picture of the cage could help us give you tips on how to open it

There's a review of it here which says the top is held on by two sliding clips. Looks like they slide backwards

Is the lid sitting correctly in the hinges at the opposite side? If it isn't the sliding bars won;t clear the lid to open it. It can be fiddly but you have to unhinge it fully and resit the bars and click in to place. I'd put the whole cage in the bath in xase the hammy jumps out in fright then transfer the ham to a carry box while you try and fix it. I have a couple of similar fop lids and they open ok
