Default Looking for thoughts

I really can't make up my mind about this cage: Hamsterbur i træ. it seems amazing, but as I'm a first time owner I really don't have any experience.
I know it links to a danish site, the measuremeants are 115x60x58 cm. there's mesh in the top with 1,5 cm holes.
the fact that it is in wood is what concerns me the most.
what do you guys think?

If in doubt, plastikote everything that could possibly get wet. That would be one of the two concerns, but the other concern is what kind of wood it is made from. You should be able to ask what kind of wood it is,and if you don't get a definite answer another cage might be better.

The top is another situation though! It might need to be meshed over for a smaller hamster, but for a large hamster it might be fine.It seems like a good cage, but the only usable door is the top door. The bottom one would make substrate fall out if you had an appropriate amount, and the top door could cause stress and behavior problems in a nervous hamster.Other than that though it isn't a bad cage at all but its size is better for a dwarf than a Syrian.

I agree, plastikote everything otherwise it will turn into a pee stained cage, also if your hamster is an excessive chewer I wouldn't buy it.

Is it really too small for a syrian at 115 cm?
the bottom hatch is for cleaning accessibility. it doesn't say which kind of wood, but I will definitely ask before considering buying it

The length is fine The width is the issue actually, but honestly there aren't any square meter cages available so Ikea hacks or DIY is the way to go for Syrians.A good example of a square meter Ikea hack would be 4 Billy units all together in one big floor space with walls off each so the space is completely uninterrupted,or another idea would be two Detolf's done similarly either lengthwise or widthwise. There are lots of options to do for Syrians, but for a dwarf it can get to the point where it isn't always worth it.

The cage is an ideal size for both a Syrian and Dwarf hamster. Although some hamsters do prefer a larger cage, but if a cage has plenty of enrichment to prevent boredom the cage will be fine.
I would suggest painting the cage with paint such as plastikote to stop pee and water soaking into the wood.

I think the size of that cage is fine, my worries would be that some hams will chew their way through wood, pee could be a problem but plastikote would get round that, setting up the cage could be difficult, you would have to take care that a ham couldn't fall from the shelves onto anything hard.
I really think a cage with on large area without the levels is better tbh though.
Can you order from Zooplus where you are? They probably have the best selection of suitable cages.

It is confusing as in most countries there is no legal minimum cage size so what you get is a lot of varied opinions, a lot depends on the individual ham although we mostly like to think bigger is better an 80x50cm cage would be perfectly adequate for most hamsters.

Personally I wouldn't buy it I can see there would be a problem with chewing and peeing. It looks a great cage but in my opinion there are better cages out there for the money. Also the mesh spacing is 1.5cm if you have a small syrian that might also be a problem due to escape risks.

Between the wooden cage and the square meter cage, I'd honestly just go with the square meter. Although the wood cage would be an acceptable size, why would you go for smaller whine you can get bigger for not much more? The sq meter cage may well be easier to mesh too as there are no awkward shapes to mesh like the lid on the wood cage - just 5 square panels
