Oh it's not big enough for any ham to squeeze through I don't think. Maybe a teeny tiny baby robo or chinese could think about it? But by the time you get them home they're about 4-6 weeks so I think Russian dwarfs would be fine. If you block off the airflow, even with just a bit of cardboard or something, they might not even notice the hole is there.

You could make a bottle holder for standing inside the cage. The first link on here is to another hamster forum bottle holder tutorial! I wouldn't use a polystyrene cup though - paper would be better. Or you can use a plastic bottle (eg a mineral water bottle) - cut the top 2/3 off and make a hole part way down - the bottle sits inside the mineral water bottle with the spout sticking out through the hole.

This one isn't cheap but it's so nice lol. Superpet critter camp out set - the tree is the water bottle holder - not sure what the other things are good for - a food bowl and hide I guess.

This is a bit cheaper but I'd use your own bottle - the classic 75ml mouse bottles fit most things and I think they're good for hamsters and work well. We have a 75ml ferplast drink at the moment but that doesn't seem to fit any bottle holders! Has a larger spout than most.

Rodipet in Germany make a good one but it costs about £11 plus £7 postage - Cypher has one - I had the taller one (still do but using the Ferplast Drinky bottle now and it doesn't fit). They're good bottle stands - stable and easy to use - the classic mouse bottles fit in them and it comes with one.

Saw something about how to block the hole somewhere - stick a screw through it so the screw head is on the inside and screw a washer onto the outside on the outside.

Just found this bottle holder on ebay - not a bad price, includes delivery and has a hidey hole in it too!

It's much easier finding things for dwarf hamsters lol! Really hard to find anything syrian sized.

I think it was someone on here who had a photo of that. Google says it was Vectis lol. You could use a shorter screw so you don't rip your tights.

And here's about meshing the lid. TBH what puts me off is having to buy wire cutters - I'd rather spend the money on a cage lol. Although wire cutters can be got quite cheap. I think the lid on the Duna's is supposed to be less clunky than the Zoozones as well. Just from what I've read on here.

Just to throw a spanner in the works - there's the detolf! Shannon has one.

Costs £40 - needs a few strips of wood and some mesh for a lid. Mansion for one dwarf or could be divided in half for two hamsters.

You definitely do not need wire cutters for fine mesh like that. My old kitchen scissors managed just fine though I did get a bit of a hand cramp in my weak shameful fingers

I saw that. Which gave me the idea to use this. When I've taken Hector to my brothers house for holiday (he lives in a mini duna so travels in it too. It's fine he's an agoraphobic robo) I've used this to block up the water bottle hole. Which makes it a other way to add a toy too.

I really really love those colourful water bottle holders... They are incredibly cute!

I think I'm going to give meshing the lid a go before I look for any other cages... Might as well try to use one that I already have so there's more money for toys! Haha. I feel like the detolf would be above my diy capabilities!.

I actually already have some of those wooden carrots in my rabbit's hutch already. She just ignores them so I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I stole one...
