Default Pet Cage Barney review

So I said ages ago I'd put up a review on this but just got round to it now...sorry!

This cage is available on the zooplus website for £79.90 but if you are an eBay addict like me you can pick it up cheaper there sometimes. I managed to get mine brand new on eBay for £18. It was on one of those zooplus sellers that sell items that have been sent back for whatever reason.

Here is the photo from zooplus :

Information on Zooplus:
Cage size:82 x 51 x 40 cm
Mesh size: 7 mm
Tray depth: 15 cm
Accessories: wooden platform, wooden ladder, wooden den (entrance 10 x 8 cm), play wheel (Ø 19 cm)
3 doors: roof: 1 door 40 x 25 cm, front: 2 doors 12 x 10 cm each

A couple pics of my Hybrid dwarf, Sprouts set up:

When I received the cage I soon found out the reason for it's return, the platform didn't fit in the wire lid, but I just sanded it down and it was fine.

I also plasti-coted the wooden platform and house for ease of cleaning.

If I'm honest I don't really use the large door on the top very often because sprout comes out the small doors and they are all I need to feed him etc. Although I think it is a great advantage if someone is taming a hamster.

The wheel is a good size but was a little stiff to use, I just kept using the silent spinner.

Pro's
Large cage
Suitable for Syrians and Dwarfs because 7mm bar spacing
Large door on top (good for taming) and 2 smaller doors on side
Comes with sturdy house and platform

Con's
A bit expensive
Large door on the top- difficult access if on shelving unit.

I think I covered everything...I bet I'll think of something else later...

I nearly bought this cage but went instead for the Savic Mickey 2XL because of it`s large FRONT door! It was the smaller doors that put me off and the inflated price, but otherwise, it`s a decent cage. Better height aswell at 40cm. I just felt it was a little on the expensive side when I could get a similar cage much cheaper.

Yeah I wouldn't of paid full price for it either! I prefer the door on the side of my hamster heaven and the mickey 2XL's. Would still recommend it though if someone found it a bit cheaper elsewhere!
I also MUCH prefer the platform/shelf that comes with this cage than the HH, no little holes on the edges where I have heard some hams feet get trapped (although I think the new ones are different). It has very sturdy wood that you can plasti-cote in pretty colours
My perfect cage for my dwarves would be this size and bar space with the wooden shelf and house but with a large side door instead of on the top. I wish it existed

Oh debs where from?

Oh definately. Had I known I could have bought one for the price you bought yours I would have snapped it up! But on the other hand, I might still have worries about the piddly doors on the front! I wanted a door I could get my senior wodent wheel through without taking the entire lid off the cage!

I do like the wooden shelving and corner house this cage comes with though and the solid ramp. Very nice. Like the XL, it`s narrower bars makes it one of the few large cages on the market today that will house dwarf hamsters aswell as syrians. So that`s a big plus.

Ooooh I'm jealous!! I want more cages!! :P

I wish there was a choice of colours in these type cages. There seems to be lots of different colours available in the plastic tank style, but not these really. I'd love a purple or teal barred cage I guess the hamsters don't care what colour it is though...
