Re: Ferplast Maxi Duna
I'm gonna add my own review here if that's ok ...
I have very mixed feelings about this cage. In terms of size I think it would be perfect for a dwarf hamster. Although my little Syrian is small, I do think this cage is too small really as Syrian items are a lot bigger and so there isn't a lot of room to put toys in. Also, in order to fit in a wheel big enough for a Syrian the stand for it has to go under the substrate otherwise it doesn't fit.
I don't like that there are no side doors, and this makes taming a LOT harder as you are always coming from the top wich is scary for a hamster.
Usually I would think that bars at the top would be great as they can't chew them, however my hamster has now discovered if he stands on top of his house he CAN reach them and if there isn't something on top he will try to nibble them, as well as monkey bar across the top.
I LOVE that you can put in a lot of substrate for digging, however this can only be in some places as the stand of wheel has to go under the substrate and once you have covered it up the wheel wouldn't turn if the substrate is too high. Also because the wheel is big I have to put the bed on the opposite end of the cage, which doesn't leave much room at all for toys.
Another thing I don't like too much is that there is only 2 places to put the water bottle. This means I HAVE to have the bottle in one place (as the other hole is by the wall so I wouldn't have access to it) which means I can't put much in that corner either.
I also seem to be constantly wiping the inside of the cage. I don't know whether it gets dusty from the sand or something but I am constantly having to wipe the sides inside which is annoying!
I also can't hang toys from the top as that is the only access to the cage (and also now he has discovered how to reach the top I definitely wouldn't be able to!) ...
So I guess I think this cage is perfect for a dwarf hamster, but possiby not for a Syrian. My little Sweep doesn't appear to be very happy in it, and I don't like that there isn't much space to put things!
