Default Hagen LivingWorld Rodent Home Big 1

Cage name: Hagen LivingWorld Rodent Home Big 1

Cage dimensions: 100cm wide x 54.5cm high x 51cm deep

Bar Spacing: 7 - 8mm (narrower than most conventional cages)

Price and shop it was bought from: Priced at £89.00 with free delivery from Zooplus although they sometimes come up on ebay as Zooplus seconds for a lot less than this - seller 'Zoopetcare'.

Cage description: This cage comes with all the accessories you'll need for it although it doesn't come with a food dish or water bottle. It comes with 3 'houses' and two large shelves plus a third 'connecting' shelf. Pictured here is the box it comes in and the 3 houses as they came - they come flat-packed as shown. The cage comes as you see it, it isn't flat-packed.

Cage shell / Box it comes in:

Positive points about this cage:

This cage is huge - the base is really, really deep so you can put a good layer of substrate in the base without it going everywhere.

Access is excellent too with a huge door on the top of the cage as you can see in the pictures. There are also 2 small 'access' doors on the front which are handy for interacting with the occupants!

The houses it comes with and shelves it comes with are also ideal and you don't need to add more although I did Plastikote mine as they are bare wood and I feel they *would* get smelly if I hadn't done so. The shelves make good use of the space in the cage.

You can fit loads of toys in and tunnels etc and the narrow bar spacing means that smaller hammies should be fine. I have 3 dwarf hamsters in mine that are almost as small as a Robo' hamster and they haven't escaped. Even people that keep Roborovski hamsters - the smallest of the hamster species - are able to safely house them in this cage. The horizontal bars also make climbing easy! But not being too high, there is no danger of falling.

Being so wide this cage would suit hamsters throughout their lives as even elderly hamsters would be able to enjoy this cage or hamsters with mobility problems. This cage would suit any hamster species from Syrians down to Robo's and would be great for a colony of dwarf hamsters such as I have in mine.

I love this cage and regularly say that out loud! It's just so big and roomy for little animals and the narrow bar spacing makes it very versatile. The trio of dwarfies love it too and amble up and down and play in it, dig in it and just use every inch of the cage. I had them in a Zoozone 2 before this cage and having the shelves and extra height makes a massive difference to the use of space in the cage although this cage is a very similar size to the Zoozone 2.

Negative points about this cage:

The base is fiddly to get on / off the bars, there is definitely a knack to it!

The shelves are *very* awkward to get into place so once you have decided where to put them you probably won't want to move them about very often.

Being so wide, it is a bulky cage to put somewhere in a house. Ours is at the top of the stairs but if you only had a small bedroom etc to put a cage in you would probably find it difficult to find space for.

You may find layouts harder than in conventional cages as the top door can make hanging things hard to put in the cage.

It's also not a cheap cage to buy.

Rating out of 10: 9 / 10

Pictures: *Please note - the green ladders are my own*

Great review. Thanks for that. The cage looks fantastic and a great size for hammies. I love your colours on the houses now too!

Thanks.

You wouldn't believe how long I stood in front of the Plastikote jars in Wilkinsons trying to decide what colours to use!

But I'm pleased with the result and it makes the shelves really easy to wipe down etc so I think it was well worth doing.

I ordered this cage for my hamster last night as I stupidly bought a Crittertrail cage which is too small and total rubbish. I've only had Evelyn for a few weeks but I feel she has already outgrown the tiny Crittertrail. I hope she has more fun living in this cage.

Any advice on how to plastikote the levels and ramps???
Also the best place to buy plasticote, i have both wilkinsons and B&Q near me?
I'm keeping my eye on Ebay as i could never afford it brand new!
But i'm sure Porridge would love it compared to his savic cambridge (although this is a good size aswell)
I love the colour combinations you chose
note: i know this thread is old but i thought it'd be the best place to post my question.

I think you have to put primer on before the plasticote. It has it's own primer then you need 2-3 coats. Never done it myself but I have a friend who does it a lot.
