Post Review Ferplast Duna Fun LARGE

Hey everyone, So I am going to be doing a review on the Ferplast Duna fun LARGE.

I personally have two of these cages connected together as a single cage is to small for a hamster, as they need at least 80 x 40 x 40. This cage is 71.5 x 46 x 41 cm but has three floors all of which I have found to be quite sturdy (though I have had to take one floor out to fit a 29cm wheel in.)

I had a bit of trouble buying this cage, it was given to me as a christmas present but when it arrived one of the extra floors had a crack in it. When I rang up about it I was told that I spare was on the way, a month later when it still hadn't come I rang up again and the company apologised and sent me a whole new cage. Which was great apart from the one of the wire ventailion side grill which had been made the wrong way up- but I sanded it down and was able to fix this. I guess that I was unlucky in the cages that they sent me.

This cage comes with accessories however I have taken some of these out as the 5" wheel is too small for any hamster and my hamster pee's in her house which just sits in the plastic base, I now use it as a sand bath. The food bowl I found to be flimy but I liked the water bottle. I have to say that I was very impressed with the tubes and they seem to me the best I have come across, they are of a good size, reasonable soild, easy to clean and clip together quickly. I have found that both my syrian and dwarf love the tubes and my syrian can actually rolly- poly in hers.

The cage is made up of three parts, the base (which is nice and big for lots of substraight) a wire grill for good ventailion and a plastic top half. There is a large wire opening which makes it easy to get at the hamster inside though the only thing that I have found with this is that it doesn't stay up by itself you have to lead it against something or else it will fall off. Also the base seems to be a bit thin as my hamster has chewed a small hole right through it, though it is only very small and she cannot escape, however it is still a hole.

The cage part come apart for very easy cleaning and is easy to assemble and disassemble. Though when I first brought this cage I found that the instruction were differcult to follow as they were pictures, it took me quite along time to work out what it was telling me to do!

Overall I like this cage, as it looks nice, is easy to clean and if connected together make a fairly large cage. However I think that it is expensive for what it is and the accessories aren't all great though the tubes are really good but a single cage it is too small for any hamster. I would recommend trying to pick it up second hand if you can. I would rate it 7/10.

I hope that this help someone

I had this cage too and bought mine slightly damaged but as i had a couple duna multies, i was able to get a perfect large fun by pinching the plastic part of a lid off one the Dunas. . Like you i removed one of the floors and put a rat size wheel in amongst other stuff. I used it for my late Beau but recently gave it to a rescue.

Cracks are an issue with this cage, just today mine cracked in three places when a wooden ornament fell on it. Wouldn't have happened with a barred cage or something less plastic-based.

I have to say that I don't have this problem with the Ferplast Duna Fun or Mini Duna or the Combi 1 's (I have six cages connected together) the opening grills with them stand up by themselves. It is only with both of my Duna Fun Large that it falls off if I don't lean it against something.

Mischief (my syrian) really loves her wheel, I also have the 12" flying saucer for her. I didn't relise just how much she uses them until I spent the night my upstairs sitting room (which is converted in to my hammie room,) she when from one to the other for the entire night

I have the Duna Fun Large for Misty...There are a few issues with the itmes it arrives with as you have already mentioned so you will need to change them (Wheel, House and maybe even water bottle) otherwise it is an excellent cage and in my opinion completely suitable for Syrians...

I have done a similar review on my website Ferplast Duna Fun Large Review

I decided on the Duna Fun Large cage for my dwarf hamster, Bracken. I do agree with Happy_Hamster about changing the water bottle though.

Having been very new to being a hamster mum, I'd been really extra vigilant about how much Bracken was eating and drinking. Although she was/is tiny, to me anyway, I just wasn't convinced that she was drinking enough and started to wonder if she was struggling to push against the ball bearings in the water bottle that came with the cage, so I bought another bottle with an easier ball bearing to push against. Immediately, Bracken started to drink more and has continued to do so.

I'll always be aware of this now.

I also took out the wheel as little Bracken wasn't getting on with it. She loves her flying saucer that I put in there instead though!
