Default Savic Cambridge ~ Cage Review

The Cambridge is a very popular cage in the UK, so I thought I'd review this one as well.

It's main stockist is Pets At Home, where it retails at £39.99. It measures 62x36x43cm, and comes in a couple of different colours. The wire is navy blue on every cage I've seen, and the bases come in navy blue, bright blue and red. (Please correct me if you've seen any other colours).

With the Cambridge, you get 2 levels, 2 ladders, a small house, a Savic water bottle, (with a metal and a plastic clip), a food bowl and a wheel.

The wheel is far too small for a Syrian though- even one of my youngsters struggles in it. (Just waiting for her Wodent Wheel to arrive).

I really do love this cage though - as you can see, I've bought one for all of my Syrians.

To clean it, you just unclip the barred upper section, and you're left with the plastic base to scrub out. (You can just see the clip in the pic below).

The above picture is of my first Syrian Roxy, (taken over 5 years ago). I still have the same cage, which is now occupied by another Syrian; Gizmo, and before that, Buffy. So it really goes to show how sturdy the Cambridge is. (In the picture of Roxy, I've replaced the wheel with a Rolly Rat Wheel as I didn't know about Wodent Wheels at the time.)

As you can see, I've taken a level each out of the bottom two cages to accommodate a Senior Wodent Wheel. For a Junior Wodent Wheel, you would not need to remove a level. The Junior will fit under or on a level. The Wodent Wheel can then be attached by cable ties, either to the side or top of the cage.

I bought some Leap-N-Ledge perches, (£3.99 from Pets At Home or eBay), upon removing a level, so that the ladder wasn't too steep.

Access to your ham is very easy. There are two doors, one at the top...

...which makes it easy to fill up the food bowl...

And one on the side...

...which makes it easy to get your ham out, as mine all run up to the door when I'm nearby with food. (For some reason the cage doors are the opposite way round on the bright blue based cage).

There is plenty of room for accessories, and I think this cage is great. The only downside is that the levels can be a bit tricky to move around as they're a tight fit, but it's nice to have them in order to rearrange the cage.

This is Fidget's cage...

This is Gizmo's cage...

This is Misty's cage...

And here is Roxy's cage setup, (now Gizmo's cage)...

Hope you like the review- any questions let me know!

I've got a Cambridge for Rolo, our LH Satin - and I think it's brilliant. I think it gives a pretty good space on the whole with the levels and there's plenty of space for a good Syrian-sized wheel - plus lots of climbing opportunities, Rolo climbs all over it!

What I find really impressive though is the quality - it's very well-made and just feels like a good cage - all of which makes me really want to try the Savic Hamster Heaven as I hope it will be same quality-wise, just bigger

Here's a picture of Rolo's Cambridge:

Does amyone have bar chewing issues with these cages? They look nice and roomy and sturdy. What about dwarfs. Would they suit these or is the bar spacing a bit risky would you say?
Thanks for the review.

The bar spacing is 1cm so Roborovski's could most likely escape. I've never held or physically seen another breed of dwarf close up though, but I assume it would be a bit risky. One of my hams does chew the bars, but I've stopped this by changing the layout of the cage round each week. Now they just have a little nibble and potter off to explore.

Rolo doesn't bar chew in his either, Souffle - he's usually too busy climbing all over the cage. Let's just say I wouldn't put Mocha, Minnie or Caramel in a Cambridge :P

Thanks for the review, I am considering one of these for Algy as it looks like there is plenty to do in it.

That was an excellent review of one of my favourite cages.
I have 2 cambridges, Fuzzy has always lived in one and had a mjor hissy fit when I tried to move her into a Gabber. Chunky did live in one but I moved him out so I could put Berry in and have the 2 cambridges on the same shelf. Berry has never bar-chewed her cambridge except when she is asking to come out. She was a serial roof chewer when she lived in the gabber. Chunky and Fuzzy have never chewed them either.
I would give a big thumbs up to this cage.

Yeah they're cool. Pets@Home have only just started stocking them though. Jolleyes sell them if there's one near you. Here they are on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Leap-N-Ledge-C...QQcmdZViewItem

keep my Athena a in a wire cage however the bars are 7mm instead of 1cm as it is designed for gerbils I don’t know if she can get through a cm. I know Athena can squeeze through a wire ladder with the rungs 1.2cms apart if it doesn’t work u could always put a mesh over this or solder more bars on to reduce the gap
