Hi,
I know this is an old post but I was wondering how people are getting on with wooden cages?
I'm looking to get a new cage and I like the look of a wooden one on ebay similar to the one above. Are there any disadvantages to a wooden cage. (Apart from waterproofing /plastikoting). Did they stand up to the tests of time and strong little teeth?

Thanks for reading my post, los

Hi Niblenible
thanks for your reply, mine is going to be for a male Syrian too

The cage i was looking at was very similar to this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wooden-Roden.../dp/B00AWPMMKE

but having read the reviews it sounds likely to have a hamster escape route nibbled out of it in no time. So ill have to keep looking for either a sturdier wooden one or a plastic one.

As far as waterproofing I think I've read that people plastikote them, a spray paint as far as I've found out on Google today. Otherwise there's vivarium paint? Maybe that would work? I'm sure someone on here will n know what to use. As I havent tried either and you don't want it to be toxic.
Thanks los
