Default Would two identical hamsters produce identical babies?

I'm not a breeder, but I was just wondering if two hamsters of the same fur color and type bred, would their babies all have the same fur colors as well? Im specifically asking about hamsters with the silver grey fur.

It depends on the genetics, and genetics can be kinda complicated. If the parents both come from long lines of silvery grey hamsters then their litter will likely also be silvery grey.. Even if they both come from grey lines theres still a decent chance they wouldn't look the exact same- genes that cause diluted colours or more intense markings could pop up for example. They would definitely look similar though.

However if the parents come from just a random or unknown line then theres really no telling what they'll look like. It's like how sometimes a human child is born and has traits and features of their grandparents or even great grandparents that the actual parents don't have.

Basically it all depends on what genes each parent carries- not necessarily what genes are visually obvious. For example you could have a black syrian hamster and be able to tell okay clearly the gene that causes the dark fur is present. You may not be able to tell that the same hamster also carries the gene that causes the dapple pattern or the satin look.

Not necessarily. In some species and colours, such as with the Normal/Agouti Chinese you can be sure that all the babies will have the same colouring but in some of the other species like Syrians, they can 'carry' genes for other colours that are not immediately apparent when looking at them and because certain genetic combinations can cause significant problems, you will often see people say that you should never breed a hamster from unknown origins.

If I’m correct I believe it works just like us. Like Salem said if they come from a long line of one colour then it’s likely.

We all have ‘dominant’ and ‘recessive’ alleles, so for hair dark is normally dominant. If you get two parents with dark hair it’s likely the child will too. However if there is history of blonde somewhere along the line then there is a 25% chance a child can have blonde hair, even if both parents hair is dark.

I actually personally have quite poor eyesight but my parents are both fine, my grandma however has the same condition as me so my mum was obviously a carrier and there was just a small chance it would be passed on…unfortunately it did 😂

Genes are actually very interesting, there’s an island where they had to adapt building colours since so many people had produced with other colour blind people, despite it being a recessive allele most the island is colour blind.

It’s just luck really.
