Exclamation need help with possibly pregnant syrian from pet store

So I just bought a hamster from the pet store about 1 week ago +- a few days. Liked her personality and thought she was chunky and cute. Thinking more about it, I think she may be pregnant. Here are the pictures:

MY question is, how much bedding am I suppose to be providing her and do I leave the wood hideout in there? I increased the bedding to 9-10 inches and now I can't find here, how am I suppose to find out when she delivers? Any help is appreciated.

I can’t tell from the photos if she may be pregnant really, someone with breeding experience might have a better idea, if you think she may be then keeping the substrate as deep as possible would be the best thing, add in some extra shredded toilet tissue as well so she can make a big nest if she needs to, if the hideout has no base & is just one the substrate then leave that in, I wouldn’t change anything much at all unless you have to just try not to disturb her if she does appear to be nesting, it is difficult if you have a new ham & want to try to tame & bond, if she appears to want to interact then that’s fine but otherwise I would be inclined to leave her be, not disturb her nest or clean until you know one way or another if she has had pups, don’t be tempted to look in the nest & give lots of food just in case.

I can't tell either, she could just be a chunky girl. My Luna was shaped like that, big bottom half I think you are going to have to wait and see.

A syrian gestation period is 15-18 days. Have you contacted the pet store? You can stop unwanted pregnancies with a drug called galastop. If she is pregnant and has pups she could have many and you'd need to have cages all ready for them when they reach an age to split. It would be better for you and her to not be pregnant

I think she might be - especially from that first photo. But yes it’s a case of waiting and seeing. Where she is wider at the back end, you may be able to start seeing baby shaped bumps if she is. You should know soon enough. If you’ve had her a week then after two to three weeks if there are no babies then she isn’t pregnant. I can’t remember the gestation period - it’s either 16 days or 21 I think. Souffle will know

If she’s disappearing under the substrate that sounds like she may be a bit scared which is common when they are new and still very young - hiding away. The other thing is if there isn’t a house they like they will burrow and disappear.

However as she’s on pregnancy watch it’s best not to disturb anything just yet. Just keep putting out plenty of food and nesting material (torn up strips of plain white toilet paper in a heap). And it’s best to leave her alone as well. She could be building a birthing nest and if it’s disturbed after the pups are born she could cull them. So don’t clean anything for the next couple of weeks. And no peaking. It’s best to stay a reasonable distance from
The cage as well and only put food water and nesting material out, ideally when she’s asleep.

You may not know for a while if she’s had pups. Sometimes there are squeaking noises but sometimes not. It’s not safe to disturb anything until pups crawl out of the nest on their own.

Edit - posted at the same time is Amethyst Ice. If she does have pups you will need one extra cage initially. The girls can stay in with the Mother and at 3 or 4 weeks old the boys can go into a cage on their own (to prevent further pregnancies). They can go to new homes at 6 weeks so you shouldn’t need other cages if you find homes for them.

I told the manager of the pet store and her response was "I ordered all male..." with a concerned look on her face -- there, I checked the enclosure she was in and there were 7 other males in there for at least a week or two before I bought her. Then she said "well, you're going to need more cages."

Here are the links to updated photos:

It seems she made a new nest that is now heaping up to the top of the enclosure just this morning before she went to sleep. Is this impending birthing? I was in a rush to move her to a quiet bedroom and took the wheel out dropping and shattering it (ugh!)... Also added three filled three food bowls, some fresh chicken, kale salad, and two water bottles, and bought a fleece blanket to cover her enclosure.

Also, is it premature to remove the wheel? I find out if I remove it, she gets bored and starts burrowing around and gnawing the bars. I was planning to build a bigger enclosure once I bought her, but this pregnancy is going to postpone that. The enclosure is about 430 or so square inches.

Any more suggestions appreciated.

Looking at those pics she certainly looks lumpy. I think she is pregnant especially if she was i with all males.

I wouldn’t think you need to remove the wheel yet, it does sound as though she could be preparing to give birth now.
I would be careful about covering a barred cage with a fleece blanket, it could get chewed which would be dangerous & you still want plenty of ventilation, with all the substrate & a house she should be able to build a dark enough nest & should be warm enough if the room is warm.

If you’ve taken the wheel out you might as well leave it out now. Giving birth seems fairly imminent so better than disturbing her later by taking it out later. Fingers crossed all goes well. You’re doing all the right things. Yes she will be preparing so best not to disturb her now. You might need to avoid photographing her for a while! Once she gives birth she’ll be too busy to miss her wheel.
