Smile Hamsterlopedia

I recently have it on order and I was wonder just how far into breeding and genetics it goes. will there be a section on the colors as well as pictures to show what they look like. No rude comments please I have been breeding for almost 6 years strictly goldens and I'm looking forward to new colors! I have recently adopted a Cinnamon duo and a copper as well!

Funnily enough I was looking for my copy recently and can't find it I can't remember how much there is on breeding and genetics. I know there's a fair bit of medical information in it.

It's hard to get hold of and really expensive in some places - I hope you got a cheap second hand one! I got one second hand for 1p plus postage

It does mention some information on genetics and have pictures of the colour variations but I dont think there is enough information in it to teach you 'all about' genetics. I'll have a look through it in the morning and give you a more detailed reply if another member hasn't already!

Hi, it lists the common colours and patterns of Syrian hamsters and also simple genetics. There are some pictures of colours but not all the colours. It is a good book. As far as breeding and colours go it mentions what you would need to know on a simple level. Hope this helps. Definitely is a good book to have for any hamster owner

Since the last version was in either 2003 or 2009, a lot of information about cage size etc is outdated but from what I've heard it contains some very useful information about Syrian hamster genetics, colours, ailments and even an entire anatomy of a hamster! I'm very tempted to get one myself !

As hamster books go, it's probably one of the best ones out there. It focuses more on giving information than having lots of pretty pictures making it a better choice for an adult than some other books on the market.

The authors have been keeping hamsters for many years so you'll know that what they've written has come from actual experience with different hamster breeds, personalities and needs.

It's well worth a read.

I got a seconds copy off Amazon a while back and like the others have said, it`s probably the best book about hamsters in general, not having read ALL hamster books myself! The health details are particularly good reading and in depth. So yes, a good read and worth keeping for it`s archive value. If this book was updated and the images inside updated to reflect 21st century hamster ownership, I`m sure it would be a good seller.
