Re: Prevent mum pregnancy from son
karlh, have you had a look at the threads on Breeding Hamsters in the Forum?
There's a link to a crash course in the Unexpected Babies thread.
I was going to suggest to ask the breeder you got your hamsters from for advice but i guess that there isn't much point.

Re: Prevent mum pregnancy from son
Dear Dessi
thanks for your reply, which is quite interesting.
The internet says that it should be safe to start handling the newborn babies at 2 weeks old. As the 9 days have gone, I will have a look today, I will be able, for the first time to see how many have survived since birth, when there were 7, It may be little difficult to pay individual attention to them, as I see that most are beige and almost identical. Only two are of natural brown colour.
I will be able to clean their cage and arrange a new house.
However, I still have not got the reassurance as to when I can safety separate the pups from their mum, to avoid her becoming pregnant from one of her sons. Will also check with the breeder, as to what I should do, as she agreed that I can give her the babies, delivered to her free of charge, to do with them as she feels fit. I wish to end up with two sisters, Gigi and Gabbi. Unfortunately, they have to live now is separate cages, due to the pregnancy

Re: Prevent mum pregnancy from son
Hi KarlH,
4 weeks old is when you separate from mum and split boys from girls. I did put a link in one of my earlier threads that has information on rearing pups
Perhaps at 4 weeks remove mum, and arrange to take the whole litter to the breeder for them to split into single sex groups?
