Exclamation Unexpected babies

So ten days ago I got my baby hamster (7 weeks old when I got her) and today when I got home from school she was out drinking her water. I noticed some rustling in her bedding and saw little pink baby hamsters. My hamster seems to be doing ok and is going around as usual.
This is my first time owning a hamster and I've looked on websites and removed her wheeland tube and topped up her food and water. I will leave her alone for the next few weeks and contact the shop I got her from
for more advice and to warn them because her sisters maybe pregnant/mums
I would really like people to give advice because I am a complete novice
Please help
Xxx

Well you've done all the right things so far! Sorry you've got such a shock, absolute nightmare

Just keep her food and water topped up, she would benefit from protein rich foods like plain chicken or eggs (hard boiled or scrambled plain no seasoning) for her milk production but otherwise yeah, just leave her to it.

Strongbrew Hamstery has a great crash course here https://strongbrew.ca/crashcoursepregnancy that would be more help than I could be. Or the pet shop for that matter.

Good luck and god speed new hammy grandparent! I hope it all goes smoothly and you keep us all pupdated!

OMG! The baby had babies!
Coming home from school to find hamster babies must have been the surprise of the decade for you. You are amazing, so cool and collected, doing all the right things by leaving them alone and topping up mum's food then joining this forum.
What help did the pet shop offer to you?

Can anyone put more articles and advice in this thread about surprise babies? Hamster care is horrible in my country and i'm collaborating with someone who is making a website in our language so we can offer help.

Any materials i will translate (and give credit of course).

This does seem to happen a lot with pet shop hamsters! Is your hamster a syrian or a dwarf hamster? (Or a robo? Robos breed unbelievably fast and are hard to "sex"when young).

It sounds like you are doing all the right things - leaving them alone and putting out plenty of food. If the babies are handled before they emerge from the nest on their own then the Mother may cull them so best to wait before disturbing anything or handling them.

When they are about 4 weeks (I think - others will know better) the boys and girls will need separating but the girls can stay in with the mother. So you will need another cage. You can then start trying to find homes for them and they can leave at about 6 weeks. If you don't find homes for them straight away they will each need their own cage by 7 weeks or they can start fighting (depending on the species). Dwarf and roborovski hamsters can live in sibling pairs but syrians can't).
