Calling all hamster lovers in NORTHERN IRELAND / IRELAND
Ok! So there are literaly NO hamster breeders that i can find that are still here in Northern Ireland!! P@H is my only place to get hamsters and i don't trust them nor do i want to support them by giving them business. I may not be able to get more hamsters after my own pied robo Pudding passes away because my mother is fed up with me getting too attached to my hammies and then being heartbroken when they die. Despite this I'm still always searching for a reliable, safe hamster breeder. Why? Because many of my friends are now planning to get hamsters and they are going to have to get their hamsters from Pet shops where i find that lifespans miraculously half and hamsters tend to be sickly. Despite following all the advice and care tips i've read and been given on forums none of my 4 hamsters that i've owned over the years have made it past 1 year. I understand that p@h may not be responsible for this as maybe somehow i am doing something wrong or maby i've just had rlly bad luck but regardless there are many other reasons not to get hamsters from chain pet stores. So I need help. I'm begging anyone who reads this to search for any breeders or shows anywhere in Northern Ireland or Ireland. When i'm much older and move out i eventually plan on seriously considering learning everything there is about breeding and becoming a breeder myself but that possibility is a long way away. I'm calling everyone who like me, wants a reputable breeder over here to help search for someone with me or if you are considering breeding here please do because I know and have seen many people like me who really want a good breeder so we can have healthy hamsters. And hey, maybe if we all team up then we will achieve something!
Sorry for my rambiling
And please help
Thanks
-Nyah

There is a hamster club in NI and they have a FB page so you may want to enquire there - https://www.facebook.com/Thistleberr...VvNGz4aMsu0R2v

Thanks! Looking into it rn
Ok this looks really exciting they even seem to have shows going on which looks is really exciting. But i don't really know anything about hamster shows and stuff so could someone explain them? Also the person running the page or whatever (sorry i've never bothered with facebook before ><) says that they're a breeder but if me ir one of my friends wanted to ask about it how do we approach the situation? i'm sorry i've just NEVER even toutched facebook before and i am terrified of people judging me even on the internet.
Thanks to anyone who bothers to answer my stupid questions!

Re: Calling all hamster lovers in NORTHERN IRELAND / IRELAND
Hello
I too am looking a hamster from a good breeder in Belfast. Unfortunately the kilkeel hamster club has stopped and theres no one actively breeding hamsters here. I'm considering getting hamsters from the UK and was just wondering if anyone else is interested? I used to be involved with the NI club back in the early 2000's. It's a shame its died off here.

I too am looking for a breeder in Northern Ireland, or even a rescue but there seems to be none of either. I would really like to have a hamster again but it appears to be impossible unless I go to a pet shop...

Re: Calling all hamster lovers in NORTHERN IRELAND / IRELAND
Hamsters do still pop up on Gumtree every so often if you want to rescue. Of course they will still be from p@h originally but at least you aren't supporting them financially.
I have been looking into sourcing responsibly bred hams for a while and messaged back and forth with Shauna's petshop in Dublin. They use a local home breeder (wouldn't give me direct details which is understandable) and they do ask to see suitable setups before they let any of their hamsters go which is more than I've seen any other pet shop do! And they do a starter pack with the hamster heaven. The hams won't be pedigree of course and Dublin is a good drive away but not impossible.
I'm on two FB groups which get posts about local hams up for adoption, "Rodent Realm NI" and "Hamster Care and Adoption Group Ireland" which are both good.
