So i have my four males that i am keeping and a female i am looking to rehome. My female got out and crawled into brownie's cage. How do i tell if they mated besides waiting. I really don't want another litter. I just told you in another thread i wanted to wait at least a year. If she is not on her estrus then will she still be pregnant. I'm too angry to look for signs of being on estrus. She didn't get into position but he still could have mounted her. I am so angry right now.

Re: How to know if hamsters mated
The female would not normally seek out a male unless she was in heat. They would normally fight. If she was not on heat then they would not have mated and she will not be pregnant however if there was not fight she may well have. There is no point being angry as what is done is done. You need to keep her on pregnancy watch for 17 days and treat her as potentially pregnant and just take care of mum and litter if one arrives.
It's not her fault as they will follow their instinct to find a mate.
An upgrade to your cage security needs looked at as you don't want escapes happening!
Well i walked in and she was sniffing one of his toys and she wasn't in the breeding position. i fixed where she escaped. when i did breed her in the past once she wasn't on her estrus and she explored his cage then she began to fight. She was removed immediately without a mark on either.

well hopefully she is not pregnant then You still need to keep her on pregnancy watch just in case though it sounds unlikely if you did not see anything happen.
