Default Should I move her and babies?

My hamster had babies two weeks ago and this morning, the drawer of the bottom of the cage was open - something I haven't had to deal with so far...and I'm scared she or the babies can get out. She and the babies is in a 3-story cage now...but should I move her and the babies to a smaller one-story cage, to prevent the possibility of escape from the drawer?

Thanks in advance for your help...I really like this board! Glad to see a forum for hamster lovers/owners!

if its past the 2 week stay then you could move them-how do you think mum will react to the change? Just for future note, a 3 storey cage is not a good type of cage for a mum to give birth in as it s dangerous for the pups for various reasons. so put mum in a normal cage 2 days before due date-its safer that wayxxx

If the babies are walking about and the mum will let you touch them it may be safe but if I were you I would not risk it just yet. If possible confine her to the bottom level by taking out ramps and secure the tray as best you can for a few more days. Mothers have been known to kill the litter after a sudden move with such young pups so I personally would not do it. Mums are best in a tank type cage for raising babies. You will need to prepare to separate the pups into males & females soon and take them from mum. See the breeding info on site
