Unhappy My hamster is pregnant again!

Hey guys. So I recently got my male Syrian hamster a mate and she got pregnant and had 14 pups( 4 of which I kept) and now she's pregnant again. I'm worried that her being pregnant again might not be good for her health. Another problem I have is that I'm gonna be traveling for 3 weeks so I won't be there when she has her pups.

How long is it since she had the first litter?

Pregnancy and rearing pups does take a lot out of the females so it is ideal to space litters out to allow mum to rest. Obviously what's done is done in this situation, but I would recommend taking strict care to prevent her becoming pregnant again in future as two litters is more than enough

If the male and female hamsters are in the same cage, please separate them as soon as possible. This will prevent the female becoming pregnant again when she gives birth and also Syrian hamsters should live alone. Make sure they never have any 'play dates' and that cages are secure to prevent her becoming pregnant again.

Who is caring for the hamsters when you are away? They will need good instructions about the care of a pregnant hamster and new litter.

Just to check - you are not keeping them together are you?
Syrians are strictly solitary. A 3rd litter would not do her any good and may shorten her lifespan.
Ensure her male pups are removed a 4 weeks because they can and will mate with the mother at this age.
You do need to ensure there is care for the pups when you are away with someone responsible and also a vet on hand in case something goes wrong and they need attention. I would suggest this is her last litter as so close to the previous is a great strain on the mother.
