Question wheel or no wheel?

I'm not a hamster breeder at all but I've just been researching up on hammys cause i like to know how to treat my hammys the best i can but lately I've seen a lot of things saying that if you're hamster is pregnant take the wheel out cause she can hurt herself but I've also seen a lot of things saying that you should keep the wheel in for exercise and i'm just curious now and was wondering if anyone could give me their opinion.

I think a lot will depend on the hamster's individual situation. If a hamster is healthy, of a good weight and is not pregnant then there's no reason not to give them a wheel in their cages however several of mine do not have wheels for various reasons. One for example is very elderly now, another has scarring on her respiratory tract, another cannot maintain a healthy weight. Some breeders remove the wheels in the week before the pups are due but I prefer to remove them from the cages of my females during pregnancy and until the pups have been separated as I feel that their energies are best conserved for raising healthy pups.

Another reason to remove the wheel is because when pups start wondering around they can easily get injured if they walk past or hide under the wheel whilst mum is running on the wheel. I'd remove it now for the reasons mentioned above, also because you don't want to disturb the cage layout much when there's pups in there too.
