Default baby pictures (and colour query)

well I am now very curious as to what colours my lot are, so took some more pictures, I now know I have two boys and 5 girls, I will show you them a hamster at a time, and try to only put up one or two pictures a hamster ( more can be found http://www.hamsterhouse.co.uk/gallery/older-babies )

First off we have the male "grey" coloured one. He has very dark bits and very light bits on him and is more fluffy than the other grey

The other male is the darker coloured of the red eye ones, he is also one of my fluffier babies

first for the girls we have one of the pale red eye ones, this is my most fluffy hamster, (which has actually got me wondering how fluffy a long hair is at 21 days old?)

This one I am basically certain is a Black Tort (which means she stays no matter what as I have always wanted a Black Tort)

The third of the girls I am certain is going to be a Umbrous Golden like Hex

The fourth one is a grey I know, but unlike her grey brother is more grey all over, she does not have such dark dark patches, and her light spots are not so light. Also she is not as fluffy.

And the last of my lot is the second pale red eye, there is such a contrast on fur between this one and her sister of similiar colour, she is so unfluffy :S

right then so any ideas on colours would be great, or even why a few are so fluffy?

4-Tort!!

5-Umbrous Golden

6-whoa! beautiful! Silver Grey? too light to be Dark and too dark to be Light

7-no idea! same as 3 I would guess, and I don't have a clue about that one either.

it's going to be hard to part with this lot they are all so friendly too

I guess they need to be a bit older still for colour guesses, I am still hoping that the fluffy ones become Longhaired :P

so that means both Si and Shadow carried the Longhaired gene then... wow

the last one I noticed seemed to have a band around it's shoulders but a poor one, on closer inspection she seems to look as though she has been splattered in bleach, I take it she will be some pale Tort as the white is very sparce.

I wish someone who knows would come and look.

perhaps a Dove Tort? It would make sense if you have both a Tort and a Dove in the litter Not that genetics ever make sense

I think you definitely got your wish and have at least one Tort there nooboo - the darker one is either an Umbrous Golden or Black Tort and the paler one you mention is maybe some sort of Silver Grey / Dove / Tort combination Shadow is more probably Dove than Mink looking at the babies now. But then the pale ones may indicate some Cream / Grey Combinations = Ivory, Red Eyed Lilac and/or Blonde were my first thoughts

The "grey" ones do look rather like Si, don't they? I wonder if he is maybe heterozygous Silver Grey after all... then he would produce offspring like him no matter what colour he was mated to. Ems is quite right that your "fluffier" ones are going to be Longhaired. And as you say this does mean that both Si and Shadow must carry the recessive Longhaired gene. Si must also carry Black if you have Dove babies as Black is also recessive. So he is a right genetic soup

I feel bad that I am loving this litter more than the last. It came from worse circumstances, but the colours and their nature, and I feel I know more what to do, they are just so lovely. To have both the tort I dreamed of, and Longhair.. it's all too much. Any advice on which one (other than the tort) would be good to keep, in respect maybe to show? or are they are equally usless

oh and babyboos, yes they do look like Si, well one does more than the other, except he has gotten the fluffy bug :P the girl grey is as I said lighter in the darker bits and darker in the light bits than Si, or the male one - but so cute with it! Are the really pale ones then a pale Dove, is that possible??

Dove can darken with age but to be so light I would say some kind of Grey is probably having an influence - we don't know for definite if mum is a Mink or a Dove to know if they truly are a Black or a Cream combination... What does the dark Tort look like underneath? Does she have cheek flashes?
