Female that won't stand for the past 2 weeks?
I shall start off with a disclaimer: These 2 are Pedigree'd Syrians from top NHC Breeders [Tristar and Mally Hams], I have Studied genetics for over 2 years in fact Strong Brew Hamstery taught me a lot of it. So I'm not breeding because "oh cool colours". Trust me, 2 BEC with only BEC in their pedigree don't produce cool colours
Now that is out of the way I've been attempting to breed my SH BEC Female to my LH BEC Male for about 2 weeks now. I saw a lot of breeders were recently starting to have success with pairing them up and as my female had come of age and size, I decided to try it, but nope. She won't stand.
I've had lighting on for longer than 12 hours, she gets lots of high quality mix, fresh veggies twice a week I try it between 9pm-10pm and the other day I tried it at 1:30am... She just won't stand, dare I say it, I am now 99% sure she isn't even going into season.
I would try another male, but I don't have one and no way to get another Pedigree'd Male of any colour, let alone BEC with nice type like the boy I have, before she's too old to have a first litter.
So do any of the super experienced breeders have any advice here? Or should I just give up?

Re: Female that won't stand for the past 2 weeks?
It's still the middle of winter I've tried various things to trick my hammies into thinking it's not winter and they seem to know, and breed when they're ready. Some of my Syrians have stood at 9pm, some at 3pm, some at 9am, or 1am.

Shhh! Momo might hear that. It's spring! Totally Spring!
That's kinda annoying that some Hammies are impossible to trick, but oh well. I just have to be patient. I had hoped to have the babies at 6 weeks + by Dawlish Show so that other breeders could have them as it's the only show I'm attending this year, but if she isn't going to stand until it's dead on spring, that's gonna be impossible...
I guess it's just a waiting game then now. The boring side of Hamster Showing and Breeding

I like making plans. I make sensible plans like space litters out, don't have several girls all needing litters at the same time, make sure litters arrive in good times for shows to sell them. My girls frequently have different ideas! I can't count the times my plans have been rewritten over the years - I've learned to be a lot more fluid!

I'll learn the art of fluidity when I have more Hamsters. It's not the end of the world~ just means every single one of them are going to pet homes unless there's a REC in which case it'll stay with me here, both have REC in their Pedigree at gen 2, so there's a small chance there will be a REC if both carry for Cinnamon.

As hamsters are notoriously contrary - perhaps tell her you don't want her to stand until at least August and she really mustn't do it And then she might.

Re: Female that won't stand for the past 2 weeks?
It's still very early in the season. No matter how much artificial light you provide you can't fool their biological clocks that are very sensitive to the rhythms of the seasons and they can detect the natural changes in the temperature etc. I wouldn't be too concerned. Some females will not stand unless they are exactly in the peak of season. This can be early morning, mid day or in the evening. You should try at different times of the day if possible. Some females will also not stand unless they are actually with the male. This involves an element of risk and close supervision. Have a spray bottle to hand and heavy cardboard to push between them to separate them if you see any sign of the female getting uneasy.
I would also increase your dark greens to both males and females and also i have found extra wheatgerm sprinkled on the food as well as some beansprouts for isoflavines helps their hormones!
I think it is a case of patience really. Young males sometimes don't really know what to do and need nudging in the right direction (or end) to get the idea! Some females just wont have certain males yet will accept others happily.
Often first matings don't take and she stands again in 4 days. That happens more frequently in winter with unsuccessful matings.
I'm sure it will work out fine. I'd probably stop the artificial light now and open the curtains wide and let her feel the spring coming in now

@Serendipity - LOL. I'll do that see.
@Souffle - The curtains thing is okay... I don't have any in the Hamster Room I'll try some Beansprouts Twice a week they get Kale and Broccoli, so the dark greens are alright I think? - I have put him and her together and she won't stand even with him in the box. I shall try it tomorrow in the afternoon and see if it makes a different ~Thank you!

Re: Female that won't stand for the past 2 weeks?
I try every 2hrs if I think she might stand. You can usually tell by looking underneath at the vent. The mucus is more clear and wet if she is coming in to heat. Thick and white it's not likely. Stroke him and get his smell then massage her back - see if you get any indicators like a mark down of her vent or a slight tail raise. She can change in a couple of hours to standing or not. If they are really quite hostile I would not persue it. Females are much more active on nighty nights! They wheel and chew and try and escape. This is a good indictor that if you try every few hours she will stand. I give spinach, spring greens & broccolli dark greens. One leaf daily would be fine if you want to do that plus two or three beansprouts.

Re: Female that won't stand for the past 2 weeks?
@Souffle - Thank you so much! Momo does have nights once a week where she's super hyper and no amount of chew toys can calm her, only food can. I'll try her when she next has one of those nights and see if she will I didn't realise Dark Greens daily would be okay as I think some foods can cause an upset tummy if given often but will give her 2 bean sprouts a day until she has one of her moody nights and see if it helps.
