Default New robo might be pregnant

I traveled about an hour to a different city to look at a certain pet shop pets. They said the tank was all males, the four hammys that were in the tank. In my city you can only find agouti (brown) everything basically. So when I saw the two pied robos & the two white robos, plus I drove an hour, I had to pick one out.

The one I wanted was a white husky. She has darker roots and white tips on her back just like Maddi. She was so good that the girl held her and I clipped her rather long nails with a pair of small scizzors I had in my purse. The robo was perfectly still. I cut every nail right except the last nail I cut too short & it bled a little, not bad tho the girl had some powder to stop the bleeding. The manager was gone or I don't think she would have let me trim her nails.

So I get home & I looked at its paw & checked on the sexing & I think I have a girl. She probably between 6mo - 1 yr old. It's an hour drive to return her so I'll just hope it's a male & I have nothing to worry about.

It was a store in deplorable condition, except the tank I bought mine from. The other animals look real sickly. I might call the SPCA tomorrow to report them. If she makes it past 16 days with me does that mean she's not carrying babies?

Lovely to hear you've made a new little friend I would definitely call the SPCA if you feel the conditions are poor, but remember, they'll generally have to be REALLY bad for the SPCA to step in and help with hamsters (which for some unbelievable reason they consider less important than large animals) It's definitely possible she's pregnant, so I would treat her as though she is! If, after about 20-24 days (it's longer for, sometimes even up to 30 days) she hasn't birthed yet, then I'd begin to relax. It's good you've taken her out of their care, make sure to share some pictures of her!

Ok, thanks Drago, you should have seen the look on the other three hamsters in the cage. All at the same time they were horrified she wasn't in the tank with them anymore. It took her awhile to calm down, I'll leave her to settle in. Should I leave the wheel in? I'll do the tissue thing tomorrow to get her to know my scent.

I named her Paris, no pictures yet. Didn't take any after a long day. Will get some after she's ready to interact which maybe up to two weeks want her to be really calm & not scared.

She's in a Critter Trail cage temporarily until a tank opens up. Maybe tomorrow I can upgrade her, or is a Critter cage better for the first 30 days? Just don't know what to do about the wheel?

Paris is an absolutely lovely name! I would recommend leaving the wheel in, it will help her settle and it's good for exercise. I would definitely upgrade to a larger tank whenever you can, a CT will be fine for the first few days, but it will make settling in easier and I personally think it will help with taming

True, I'll put her in a tank in one week. Can't wait to have her in my hammy room. You can't see anything in the Critter Trail cages, not to mention how small they are. I have no open tanks tonight otherwise she'd already be in a tank. So in one week she gets her new tank.

Should I be lifting her rather large wooden house every few days wearing a glove to open the nest? I know not to touch the pups but how do I know if there are some in there? I saw her at 4am on her wheel & she looks fat & lumpy.

I have bugs climb up from the drains so last night I poured some bleach down the drains in just the kitchen, not the bathroom yet. I opened the sliding glass door and turned a good floor whole room circulating fan on.

I turned on the hot water & ran that down the drain (I have 2 kitchen sinks) for a long time. So the door was open for 2 hours plus the fan was on all night. I was really scared for the hammies but at 4am they were all up happy as can be.

I still have the bathroom sink to do in a couple days.

She's in a tank now No more Critter Trail cage!

Edit: she's extremely skittish so I just partially lifted her house a I knew she wasn't in it. It spooked her

She's absolutely adorable! I love her coloration As for knowing, I think it's just a guessing game. As she gets closer to her due date, I would try to check in on her and see what she's doing before putting your hand in to ensure there's no little ones in with her. Hope all continues going well with her

Yeah, maybe when she looks thinner then I'll know. I found a Pet-Co store who guaranteed me they'd take them for adoption.

But they make people buy a Critter Trail cage then get a baby robo for free. I don't like that cause that wouldn't be a good life for the robo for people who don't know the cage is inept, plus the water bottles don't work in those cages

There are other ways to find good homes, providing that she's even pregnant & has a successful litter.
