Re: The M17s have arrived!
Oh no that's such a shame about Muffin, Melon & Miso.
Bless Jubi, hope she's ok.

Oh, I am so sorry! I hope Mommie Jubi will be okay.
Sleep well Muffin, Melon, and Miso! You will be greatly missed by your hammie mum and your human one.

Re: The M17s have arrived!
I'm sorry to hear about the lost of the three babies. I hope the rest are ok. Sh*T happens, but try to seek confort in the other ones, and think that maybe this was necessary for the well being of the rest.

Re: The M17s have arrived!
Welp, Jubi had a couple more losses. Mango and McNugget both passed away. I think Jubilee is having difficulty lactating for the number of pups she has produced.
The pups are 14 days and some have eyes open but not all. We have a fairly big size difference, and one pup who is trailing behind. I've named her Mini Wheat, and I've started supplementing her as she's about half the size of the biggest pups.
During these supplement times, I've discovered that at some point in her young life, she's had her jaw broken. Unfortunately this explains her size difference, as her jaw is misaligned, poor wee thing. I imagine it's happened when she was much smaller.
This gives her a bit of an Elvis look, as her bottom jaw juts forward. With the help of one of my friends, we carefully trimmed her bottom teeth to provide some relief to the upper gum, and to help her eat. She's been eating baby food quite heartily so I hope now that we know it's an issue, we can modify what she's eating to help her thrive.
My good friend Alex at the Pipsqueakery has offered to take her, as she's quite knowledgeable with dental issues in hammies. Silver lining, it isn't genetic; none of my lines have ever had teeth problems, and it's very obviously not just how the teeth are, but the jaw.
Though, because I was worried, I did "exhume" the bodies of our five departed pups. None had the same issues. Plus side, I was able to bundle them all up together. They'll be buried in the spring, once the ground is softer.
Due to all this, Jubi will be retired after this litter, and will be rehomed to a great friend of mine, who runs Spica Hamstery, and has a soft spot for my retired breeders. It was no fault of Jubi's, but I think she may not quite be cut out for motherhood. I already have my eye on a keeper from the litter, but will be quite choosy with her temperament going forward, and will go into any litters with her cautious.
Otherwise, the other pups are doing very well; they're fat and chunky and motoring about like little toots.

Re: The M17s have arrived!
Rest In Peace Melon, Miso, Muffin, Mango and McNugget . Play well at the Bridge.
Poor Mini Wheat! I hope she's ok. How do you think it happened? I'm not surprised The Pipsqueakery offered to take her - I am a massive fan of them and have seen how dedicated they are on Instagram (hence why I've donated to them a couple of times) and seen the hamsters they've taken on (like Pierre or Princess Bartoo). At least it isn't genetic though.
Can't wait for more updates!

Re: The M17s have arrived!
So sorry to hear about Mango & McNugget Hekomi. A shame Mini Wheat's broken jaw but, you spotted it and taken action and fingers crossed she makes a full recovery.
Very overwhelming for Jubilee having such a large litter and losing some of her pups.

Yeah, it not being genetic is my only saving grace. Bleh! I think it was either during labour or possibly shortly after. Jubilee was a deer in her past life, so any loud noise and she goes prancing off. Bleh. The Pipsqueakery are fantastic though, and hopefully MW keeps doing well. I imagine she will need her teeth removed like Bartoo.

Thanks all x The pups are doing well, even Mini Wheat who gained a gram. Their eyes all opened on Monday. MW is 13g, while the biggest are now 36g.
Minestrone, black female.
Macaroni, black banded female.
"We have eyes but seeing is overrated thx"
Mini Wheat is a black banded female (spoiler - all girls).
Of course wanted to show everyone she had eyes.
Matcha, black tort banded. She's pretty but her temperament isn't great right now. Hoping she shapes up because I know she'll be the first pup chosen.
Muesli is a black banded female.
The last pup is Molasses, aka Molly, who will stay here. She fits my breeding goals and is fairly docile in temperament. Type wise, hopefully an improvement on dad. I'm not big on choosing a keeper like this early, but with recessive dappled being in my line, I'll want to slowly phase my bands out.
Here is a size comparison of Matcha, Muesli and Mini Wheat.
I need new pictures of everyone, and to clean their bin out tonight.
MW eats on her own and is fairly independent. Hopefully she grows and can thrive despite the hard lot thrown at her. Poor babe.
