Re: Problem pregnancies - happy endings doubtful
That really sucks. If Zuli were mine and the vet was hesitant about surgery I'd ask them to try. If no surgery - hamster dies. Or, decide not to do surgery and euthanize. Or, try surgery and hamster dies under anesthetic or on recovery....or try surgery and hamster lives. I actually did do this with one of my syrians - it was surgery or euthanize so I opted to try the surgery. She ended up having 1 giant pup inside that never would have passed on its own. She came through the spay ok and is still with us today. However...a syrian is a lot bigger than a chinese!
On another note I've had 2 syrians with masses near the cheek pouch. Both I did surgery on to remove the mass. One it was fine, never came back. The second one was a more invasive tumor and it was actually the second one we removed (first was on top of her head). Both didn't involve the pouch itself however the second was right against it.
Either way, good luck with your girls! I hope they both do ok.

So sorry about the two Chinese girls - a big worry as well. Do keep us posted as to their progress. And fingers crossed the antibiotics help. Sad that their pregnancies had complications but I hope they survive and flourish

Re: Problem pregnancies - happy endings doubtful
Thank you everyone.
We're back from the vets. Nin is booked in for her surgery on Tuesday. Zuli stayed at the vet and will have her op today. I'll hear this afternoon how it's gone. I've asked that if it's not operable that she be let go under the anaesthetic, but I've got everything crossed that we've got it in time and she'll be ok. The vet agreed that it felt more like pups than a pure pyo.
I'm getting the hospital tank ready so picked up some Carefresh and cucumber. As it's so warm today Nin came round the supermarket with me to help pick up the bits! Thank goodness it's more accepted now to bring your own bags for life
