I actually prefer the apricot colour - I just wish I could change the name to Apricot hamster not cream haha!

I have a feeling that the same gene is called cream in another animal, but I can't for the life of me remember which animal it might be, and google is not helping!

It is down to the judges preference and interpretation of the colour cream as written in the standard. When you see a lot of creams together it is quite easy to work out the best in your personal view colourwise. Very dark 'orangy' creams I would describe as 'harsh' as they do not fulful the standard in my eye. Pale is obvious but there is a subtle point where cream is correct. Red eyed cream should have a 'pinky' overtone and will differ from the more peachy black eyed cream and you can see the difference and mark accordingly.

Re: Genetics questions, The Why do they, or what ifs of Coat colors
OK here is my next question which is more like a why is he like this, and what color could he possibly be. Mom is Chocolate Tort carrying Cinnamon, and Dad is Golden Banded dominant spot carrying both Black and Cinnamon. There is no documented Silver gray in the pedigree. One of Ahave's pups is pure white, Has solid black eyes, BUT has solid Flesh ears.
There is the Polywhite gene in play BUT that will not cause a black eyed hamster to have pale ears. It can't be rust as the sire is not even a rust carrier. He is a cinnamon and Black carrier But a pup with flesh ears by him should also have red eyes and this pup has beyond any doubt solid black eyes.
Here he is at 21 days old

and in my hand to show you his eyes are beyond any doubt Black
P1010035.JPG
Here is his black eyed dark eared satin brother
P1010057.jpg
By this photo you can see his white siblings are Red eyed flesh ears, and Black eyes and Black ears.

Any idea what he could be to have black eyes but pale ears when it is impossible for him to be any rust color?

Thanks souffle, that makes sense!
I'm not sure if it's just the image but they look very dark red/brown to me! There's a slight tinge of it. But if not, I honestly have no idea

Re: Genetics questions, The Why do they, or what ifs of Coat colors
This thread needs a Bump
I now know what color the mystery of the Satin Black eyed white pup I shared above is. It took him until he was 6 weeks old to reveal his pale ears are actually black polka dotted(IOW Mottled). So he is a Yellow Homozygous Polywhite Dominant Spot(and only with breeding him will I confirm if he is also Banded for sure, But the odds are really high he is). Yellow is diluted with the Polywhite gene to an ivory like Yellow. The yellow coloring of a Hetero polywhite Yellow leaves just the head and a few spots on the rear end having any yellow coloring at all, and doesn't dilute the yellow coloring quite as much as a combination pattern of Homo polywhite, Banded, and Dominant Spot Yellow. I need to take new updated photos of him but except for obvious black spots on his ear edges he looks exactly the same as the above photos.
Still debating on keeping him or not as he is the 2nd smallest in the litter and I already have his Satin Yellow Heterozygous Brother, and his Homozygous Polywhite Yellow Banded Dominant Spot Normal coat Brother who are both much bigger then him.

I was going to mention patterning as that would the only thing, in my mind, that would allow for a black eyed hamster to have pale ears Of course I'm much better on phenotypes than I am on genotypes as my brain does tend to struggle with genetic codes.
