Elsie May's litter (A16)
I'm excited for my first litter of the year. Elsa May was born here last year and was named Elsie after the borden cow cartoon but somehow her name became Elsa May. She was a stunning little pup being a hetero polywhite black tort. Her momma is a pretty chocolate girl from the original chocolates Nancy and I collected last year. Dad was Theo, from ST's, a handsome YB boy who sadly passed a couple months ago. I bred Elsa with Max a YB domspot male. I am excited to see what they have produced and the wait is almost over as she is due tonight. Since she is quite wide now I figured it was safe to start a thread now since she looks ready to pop. The pup pic is of Elsa and a couple of her siblings at a 17 days, their eyes were open they were just sleeping Soon there will be new pup pictures to bombard HC with.

Re: Elsie May's litter (A16)
Last night I went to bed at around 1:30 am. For some reason I kept waking up, about every 45 minutes. So, every time I was up I checked on Elsa. The first couple times she was in her nest moving around a little but did not look to be in labor yet. I woke at 3:45 and again went to check on her. I saw a couple pups in the nest but no Elsa, she was laying over by the door Sadly Elsa was not breathing., I quickly opened the lid to her bin and rubbed her back, she was already stiff. This is the sad side to breeding, luckily this is my first horrible experience. I feel so sad and guilty because she should have lived a good long life but it was obvious she just couldn't birth the rest of her pups. Play well at the bridge beautiful Elsa May and pups, I will never forget your unique little face.

So sorry Erin, that must have been terribly distressing for you, try not to feel guilty, you had no way of knowing things would end this way.

Re: Elsie May's litter (A16)
I'm so sorry, that must have been so awful for you. She wouldn't have been part of your life if it wasn't for you choosing to breed hamsters, so please don't feel guilty about this situation. Like Cypher said, there is no way of knowing whether they will be able to birth successfully or not and unfortunately Elsie couldn't. I guess it's something all us breeders have to take into consideration, we are never completely prepared for what happens. It's no one's fault. You raised her from a little pup and I'm sure she had a great life with lots of attention and love, there's nothing better than quality of life and I'm sure hers was great quality. Sending lots of hugs x sweet dreams Elsie and pups xx

Sorry very sorry Erin. Very hard for you after the excitement expressed at the start of this thread. Such beautiful pups anticipated and with Theo gone too it must be heartbreaking.
Elsa May had a wonderful home with you and was a much loved girl. Play well gorgeous girl and take care of your pups at the bridge.
