Anabelle is my black dominant spot. She was a pet shop purchase. After she got over her timidity, she has been a great addition to our hamster family. I had high hopes of using her to introduce the dominant spot pattern into some of our lines.

However, Annabelle's plans did not align with my own.

I tried to breed her about 30 different times... And she was never in heat. These were not all consecutive days, but I'd try for 5-6 days until I'd give up in favor of another female who WAS in heat.

Finally I discovered she simply doesn't freeze like most hamster girls do... It ended up being a painstakingly high-maintence breeding, because of her not "freezing", and I had little hope of it actually being a sucess.

Well, 16 days later, we had 9 lovely pink babies! Ha! I am so glad, because I really did NOT want to " try again" with her.

Foma, of course, is the male chocolate polywhite that came from Nancy in January. These pups, being rust carriers, are really something special around here. 4 are our very first ever dominant spots, and they also are hetero polywhite. At least 1,aybe 2 of the Dom spots will be staying right here. There are 5 blacks and 4 black dominant spots.

Pictures will be forthcoming... They are a little over a week now, and the litter is thriving. Anabelle is a good mom, for all of her breeding headaches.

At 2 weeks, we still don't have eyes open, but they are getting big and "round". They are very healthy pups! I have a 2 week, 1 day old litter of 13 who are much smaller than these guys. (Which is why I much prefer smaller litters, but it's not like we can plan it or anything!)

They're venturing out all over the cage, and Mama is now fine with that. (As of 12 days she stopped trying to return them all immediately.)

Anabelle's babies are 19 days old now. I forgot to get a picture of all of the blacks, and now they are put away, so you'll have to wait for them. But here are the 4 black dominant spot (hetero) polywhite pups:

And this black satin (male) kept catching my eye. He is really quite beautiful. Unfortunately, I don't need another black, especially if he is satin... but I might have to change my mind if he ends up growing being as lovely as he appears to be now...

Ooh they are gorgeous. I really want one lol. It seems so long since Charlie was a baby.
