Default Cayley x Winston

I bred Cayley (LH Satin Golden Tort) with Winston (LH Dove).

Cayley4.jpg

Winston 1.jpg

Cayley had 7 babies.

Cayley is an Ee tort, and I was hoping Winston was an EE dove. Cayley does not carry black, but she does carry cinnamon. Here's what we ended up with:

1. F LH Cinnamon Tort
2. F LH golden (my keeper!)
3. M LH BEC Ghost Yellow
4. M LH Golden
5. M LH Satin REC Ghost Yellow (He is very, very dark for a cream, especially a REC!)
6. M LH Satin Golden (very dark!)
7. M LH REC Ghost Yellow

Note: I was specifically trying to work the cream out of this line. I had kept back 3 brothers from my Sweetie (EE black) x Alaster (Ee yellow-black) litter, as there was only a 25% chance for each to carry cream, and I figured probably at least one of the boys was EE. Winston was my first test, and, as you can see, he is a very dark Ee dove. Sigh.

My keeper girl is a real beauty though. The yellow-creams are all lovely boys who will make great pets. I do really like how dark the satin REC is! Pictures coming in the next post...

1. F LH Cinnamon Tort:

2. F LH Golden (I love, love, love her. She also happens to be the calmest of the bunch!)
2 F LH Golden 4.jpg

3. M LH BEC Ghost Yellow
3 M LH Ee Yellow Band OR BEC Ghost Yellow.jpg

4. M LH Golden
4 M LH Golden.jpg

5. M LH Satin REC Ghost Yellow (Note: he is not roan, the satin makes the shine darker on the head from this angle, but I wanted to show his dark coloring with his satin + yellow-cream coat. The front view - due to the satin - looks much different. And in person, with him constantly moving, it looks like an ever changing display of rich, deep creamy tones. He is really quite beautiful!)

Here is #5 again, from the front. This picture shows his type a little better.

6. M LH Satin Golden - His markings are very dark.

You will have to wait for pictures of #7, because my camera battery decided to die before I got his pictures taken!

Here are more of the Female Golden keeper. She really is quite a beauty, I believe! Best of all, she is completely unrelated to many males here. Planning matches will be tricky, because I will want to pair her with everyone! She carries both cinnamon and black for sure (due to her dove daddy), so there are many possibilities.

I believe she may be our next "best-of-hamstery" female, and once or twice a year I try to pair our best male with our best female, so I'm thinking she will probably be the one for that litter. And I will probably breed her with my other golden male in an effort to work on a more pure golden line for the future. Then match #3 remains to be planned...

You can't have #6 as he is headed this way end of the year or sooner if things go as planned for M2S then he's here in August.

If you'd be willing to hold this boy along with the Golden male I already will be getting from this litter I would LOVE to have him. How far back in the pedigree do you have of Cayla? By past pups of mine I have a hunch you are calling him and the other REC pup in this litter incorrectly. IF Mom has a black gene behind her you are not unaware of this and the other pup look a lot like my pups I got when I bred a Black LH to and Umbrous Satin Golden Tort who was out of a Satin Melanistic Yellow and an Umbrous Golden Tort
Here is a male pup I named Aslan at 17 days old
P1010113.jpg
And a Pup I named Sherbert at 17 days
ham1.jpg
The two pups together at 17 days
Aslan N Sherbet 17 days old-a.JPG
My Mentor, and the owner of Koala Den in Pennsylvania, and a very knowledged Breeder in New York all thought the two pups above were a REC for Sherbert, and a Mink for Aslan until they got their adult coats in.
Aslan in April 2010 outdoors with natural sunlight on his beautiful coat
Aslan April 14,2010-b.JPG
Sherbert the same day and place
Sherbert April 14,2010-b.JPG

They ended up Aslan was a satin Umbrous Honey Black, and Sherbert was a Satin Umbrous Honey. No Cream in either one.

However in your case you feel there is no black gene in Cayla, and you thought Winston was Cream free(which he could very well be still) If I can nab Male #5 I can use him to a female here who can confirm if your Dam of this litter secretly had a Black gene hidden from you as well as confirm if this guy is REC or what I suspect is Ee honeyblack, or EE Umbrous Honey.

He could be umbrous honey, if that washes out the cheekflashes. Sadly, he just walked out the door, because he was reserved by a family in NY coming to pick him up. He will have a lovely new home, and, I'm sorry he is already gone, Nancy.

He really could be umbrous honey though. Honey was a possibility for this litter. It is fairly unlikely, though not impossible, that Cayley carries black for the honey-black. (Which would really explain the rich coat!) Her father did not. (Honey male, when bred to a dove had 100% cinnamon and cinnamon tort babies) When her mother was bred to a known black carrier, there were no blacks. There were only 6 or 8 babies (I didn't keep as good records then! Ug!), and of them no blacks, but it could be that it is just hiding.

He was probably my favorite, as far as colors go, but I don't need another male at the moment, and his sister is definitely better suited for future plans anyway.

Now that you're saying umbrous honey, I'm kind of kicking myself, because I'm very curious and now there is no way to ever find out. LOL.

I still have to plan Cayley's last litter, and with her carrying cinnamon, maybe I'll try to match her with another cinnamon or dove in hopes of getting honeys. I have the little honey ED carrier who is male, and has excellent type, and we'd have a good chance at male and female honeys with him later this year... (Though not umbrous.)
