My First Chocolate Carriers
I, for the second time, have bred both of my new chocolate hamsters. The first time, neither litter "took". I am more hopeful this time, because my litter conceive rate is going up now that I cranked the heat up.
Kenzie, my LH black tort was matched to ST's Foma, a SH chocolate polywhite.
ST's Cherie, a LH chocolate, was bred with Blackout, one of my old guys, a SH black. I am working on longevity, and he is an EE guy, which is great for future plans.
I don't have pictures, because I am on my phone, but I am too excited to keep the news to myself!

I am probably most excited about this litter. I may get a 4th generation yellow-black male who carries rust! That would be perfect. All of my yellow males have been retired, so I'm on the lookout for a perfect-type yellow male. So far, out of 3 potential litters, I have not had a single "keeper" yellow-something male!
ST's Cherie (LH Chocolate):

She was matched with Blackout (SH Black), one of my old-man-hams. I am working on longevity in general, and especially with the chocolates. He is a sweet, calm hamster, and has been from the start, so he is an excellent choice to try and pass down some good hamster genes! I'm expecting 100% blacks here, both long and short haired. Blackout is EE, so even if Cherie carries cream (there is a possibility), there won't be any cream pups.
I can't wait to meet them! My litter conceive rate has been about 50% in this cold winter weather, even though I have the heat cranked up in the hamster room. I may not get both litters, but I am surely hoping for at least one! We can always try agian, a 3rd time, if necessary.
I have a SH DS black waiting in line to be bred with Foma... but for now we wait and enjoy the litters we do have.
Pics of Cadance (LH cinnamon tort banded) x ST's Avisha (SH ED cinnamon banded) will be forthcoming... just waiting for the babies' eyes to open! There are 7 cinnamon-something pups. Some could be honey, and there is even a chance for honey-black. All 7 are definitely "orangey".
This will be all of the hamsters that I picked up from Nancy except for Harper, who has not had the good-fortune of being matched yet.

Re: My First Chocolate Carriers
They all look gorgeous. Kenzie is especially wonderful. There is something about her expression. Mind you Foma and Cherie are little bundles of chocolate loveliness.
Hope that both hamsters are pregnant. How very exciting.

Re: My First Chocolate Carriers
How exciting to see the Chocolate G1 hamsters being used to continue the effort to improve the Rust gene in the USA. I do think Kenzie is Umbrous so that may prove very interesting down the road with her pups. Also note that with a Black Tort bred to a Chocolate the only Yellow males will be Melanistic Yellow since both parents are black or black combination colors. Cherie and her Full twin sister Chaviva are going to have pups on or very near the same day. I look forward to seeing Avisha's litter. Hekomi may want to see as well since Avisha was believed to be Homo ED Honey, but went untested here due to the fact I had no suitable mate for him. If he is as suspected by several well knowledged ED Breeders then you should have along with that honey, Honeyblack, and Cinnamon Torts, all with and without Bands unless either, or both parents are Homozygous for the band gene.

Yeah, Kenzie is something else. She is all energy, and extremely curious and interested in life around her outside the cage. Her expression here represents her well.

Re: My First Chocolate Carriers
Well, they are both due in 5 days. Cherie, especially, seems much rounder. I am still hoping for 2 litters, but we shall see.

Re: My First Chocolate Carriers
It is starting to look like Ohio owns the breeding forum with my pups and now Nancy has four litters. Looking forward to the 30 something pups we are about to get on the forum
