Today one of the pups experimented with solid food. The pup decided to finish off mom's Cucumber square. Their fur is also almost in. We have 3 normal coat patterns and two either Sapphire's or Pearl's.
Mom has moved the nest from bedding into some tubing. I get to see them run around now!

Re: Nibblette's 5
How old are the pups now? Best pray Mom moves the litter back in the bedding as bad things happen with a litter in a bare tube and it is VERY unhealthy for the pups to remain inside a tube. Thought they were in a bin cage now, rather puzzled at this latest update. The pups get full fur way way before eyes open and dwarf pups take longer then Syrians to open their eyes so either something is terribly wrong with this pup with no fur and open eyes, or ?????.

Re: Nibblette's 5
Pups were born 5th Feb Nancy so 12 days now and they are dwarfs. They should be fully furred now as they are 12 days and the eyes can start to peep open at this point. They usually open and close and are squinty for a few days.
Moving them to a tube is not ideal and she must be feeling a bit stressy if she is shifting the pups around. Mums often do not like it when the pups start wandering. We don't use tubes for this very reason. Have you taken the wheel out? Make sure it is out as sometimes they will put pups in the wheel and then run or it and this is very unsafe!
Pups should not have a wheel till they are away from mum and in small groups as well as well grown and sturdy. They will run away all their energy and compete for a wheel if you do it sooner. There should be one wheel or saucer per hammy in the cage when they do have them

Re: Nibblette's 5
Perhaps we could have a pic of your setup, there are some very experienced breeders like souffle and Nancy on this forum who are giving you excellent advice, none of us know everything and this is a fab forum for people sharing and learning info as its so friendly. It'll be easier for them to advise you if they can see the setup and spot anything unhealthy or dangerous. Glad the pups are still growing well and coming on, is the one that doesn't look properly furry one of the lighter coloured ones?

Re: Nibblette's 5
Thank you for your concern everyone but she has moved the pups into her tree trunk. The tube i was talking about was a kaytee fun-nel loop. I have since taken it out. They are almost fully furred but still missing a few spots. Hoping for the eyes soon!

Thank you WannaHamster
Does anyone have any idea why she keeps moving the nest between two spots? I was just wondering because she has moved them three times today. Should I be worried about the safety of the pups?
We have eyes! all five pups eyes have opened at least halfway. They are keeping mom busy as she tries to round all of them up and keep them all in one place. I have a question for the mods, Do the eyes have to be all the way open to post pictures or as long as they all are at least open a little bit?
