I have more news! Winford and Niton have pups Niton was ever so slim on Friday so I wasn't expecting to hear baby squeaks when I went in to check on them (thankfully before I moved any things). The nest is open to the bottom of the tub so I could see three little pinkies as I lifted the cage onto the shelf.

Sumti is still attentive to her nest and has it built up well so nothing's visible under her log bridge.

Sounds like the Hamsters have pulled a surprise explosion after all on you Vectis. Glad you have success, and look forward to seeing all those future Champions, as well as marvelous pets when they have eyes open.

Just a curiosity question for you regarding all the Chinese litters. Can you tell their pups apart after weaned so you can combine litters once weaned or must you have two gender bins for each litter? I will often combine pet pups here but of course we have no registry so it wouldn't really matter if I mixed up same color pups here but there having to keep a pedigree on even the pet pups I was wondering.

Chinese hamsters only have 1-6 pups in each litter so sometimes I am left with a single pup of one sex. If I have a similar age litter with a pup of that sex in a different colour then I will pop them in together because I've found Chinese pups who've lived alone at 4 weeks old rather than with a same sex sibling/parent until older are often more skittish. If there's a single female pup then I had left them in with mum (if mum's coping well and not getting fed up of them). If all the litters are normals/dom spots then I don't usually feel able to tell the litters apart reliably to merge them into single sex bins!

It can get a little chaotic in the hammy room with lots of different boy and girl bins, but the number soon reduces as pups are rehomed if there are only 1-2 pups in each bin If I have a less confident ham or know they're going into a larger cage in their new home then I do split them into their own cage a week or so before rehoming to let them get used to being alone before leaving.

I saw my first escapee from Sumti's nest today - a little spotty! Just a few more days until eyes should open for them.

Winford and Niton's pups are still on the base of the bin and are growing well.

Tayleur (who was mated to Tauric) is showing baby bumps so fingers crossed for some dark greys, goldens and satins arriving soon
