Default Important Lines?

I know a lot about the general hamster info, but I was wondering how important their lines are? Ive noticed some things about "impressive lineage" and just wanted to know more about it. As you can see, I love horses. Is their breeding like hamster breeding? What's the proper term for the male and female that were bred? So are there like stunning hamsters that have offspring that are strongly desired? Basically just fill me in on any of their breeding/lines below, I would enjoy learning about any of it.

Default Re: Important Lines?

Well since the USA doesn't have a Nation wide Hamster association the lines of hamsters here would only apply to other breeders near you. Most responsible breeders don't use unknown history hamsters too often as without any background history they could be introducing hidden issues which would degrade their own lines.

Most reputable breeders breed to reach a goal which for that breeder is of most importance to them. For instance I have a desire to consistently produce Healthy, Long lived, super tame Hamsters. I also try my best to breed larger size Hamsters but those first three over ride size for me. A line which has been around a long time will always be healthier as through the years the breeder learns of problems and corrects those problems, and even may have to pet out the whole line, and start all over again if a major issues arises.

In the UK where there are Shows you can enter for a critique of your hamsters it is much easier to locate a top winning line of Hamsters and there are many excellent breeders who have made it their life time goals to continue producing top winning hamsters.

In the States we have Brookside, AAA, Holden Haven Hills,Tarots just to name a few known Hamsteries who breed quality and not quantity. Many of these listed have stopped breeding and went on to other goals in life, or just breed for their own enjoyment now.

There are several more of these type Hamsteries where they have actually entered hamsters in the only shows we currently have which all are held in California. Sadly try as they might for reasons known only to them the USA has never been able to agree to have a US Hamster Association so we all have to search for that breeder who consistently produces quality hamsters that at the least reach goals for Health and temperament and use the National Hamster Council as a guide to breed show quality standards in their hamsters.

Unlike Horses where every state has a local association or club and all breeds have a national registry, and to be called impressive they MUST show and win all the time. We have no way to obtain a Championship title on any hamsters not shown in California, and have no National club or association so no way to alert anyone of outstanding lines or hamsters, except of course through word of mouth from happy and pleased customers who have bought from us and were very satisfied.
