Hi Jess, and welcome to HC.
First does Betsie have a pedigree to look at? Dove is just two genes for Black and two genes for Cinnamon so a mate of either color will produce that same color. If you were to breed her to a Dove all pups will be Dove. If a Black who doesn't carry for Cinnamon all will be black and all will carry for Cinnamon. Unless you like Goldens you would not want to use a mate who is neither Black nor Cinnamon but this would not cause any health issues. You say Red eyed Dove there is no other eye color then red with Doves. If Betsie has a pattern(band, or Dominant Spot) then her mate should be non patterned or what is called Solid to prevent possible eyeless pups should Betsie be hiding the White Belly gene(It can happen I had a solid Dove birth 4 eyeless pups)

So the first thing to check is if Betsie has a pedigree, and if not don't breed her at all.

Hi Nancy thanks for the reply !
Betsie is a Solid dove and I know her pedigree.
You have so much info ! Also any essentials apart from cage and food ect , like essentials for the babies if pregnancy is successful of course ?
If I was to breed her with a different colour than dove what colours could she possibly produce sorry for so many questions it's my first time using one of these forums

I would suggest thinking about what your aims are in breeding her, and look at not just her colour but also her health, temperament, body shape (known as type) and size . That would guide what you are looking for in a mate for her both in terms of colour but also in complementing any weaker areas your girl has in terms of type, size, head, ears etc. I would recommend also getting her a mate with a pedigree from a breeder with an NHC prefix.

What colours you could get would depend on anything else your girl is carrying and what colour her mate is/is carrying.

It's pretty impossible to say what colours she'd produce without taking her pedigree, which should have her recessives, into account.

She'll produce all goldens unless she's bred with a black hamster or a cinnamon hamster, or another dove, if you forget recessives.

Before you breed I really recommend you do a lot of research - knowing how genetics work is a huge part of breeding.

But the genetics determine the colours and it depends who you mate her to.

A dove hamster has two copies of the cinnamon gene and two copies of the black gene (both are recessive I.e. Only expressed if a hamster has two copies of the gene). Your girl may carry other colours which you could see from her pedigree. If the male has no cinnamon or black genes or other shared recessive genes then all the pups will be golden.

This is the second time you've asked this question in the same section.

As you have already been told, you can't just "forget about her pedigree/genetics", this is how the colours she will produce are decided.

Don't just breed for the sake of breeding. You need to do a lot more research and get quality hamsters before you even think of breeding.

Not all genes are expressed and you can't tell by looking at someone what genes they carry. I have brown hair and brown eyes but it is entirely possible, based on family history, that I carry the genes for blonde hair and blue eyes. If I had children they could potentially look nothing like me. I could mate with a brown haired, brown eyed partner and if he is also a carrier then we could still have blond haired/blue-eyed children.

It's unlikely but I could also be carrying the gene for Cystic Fibrosis or Hemophilia. As a female carrier I won't show symptoms but if I pass it on to a son he would suffer from it. Luckily I don't have a family history of it but some families do. That's why there are now genetic carrier tests so that potential parents will be aware of what diseases they might pass onto their children. Because you can't tell by looking!

As a famous human example, people of Ashkenazi Jewish descent are recommended to be screened for several different diseases: Ashkenazi Jewish Carrier Testing | Patient Education | UCSF Medical Center
