Default About the age for a buck to breed

Hello there!

Here's my problem :

I've got 2 wonderful girls that I brought back from England. I meant to breed them, so the breeder told me it was ok, but I had to do it soon because they're almost 6 months and she didn't want them to have their first litter after that.

The only bucks I have for the them are Fantasy's pups. They're 3 months now, but they're really big, as they were only 5 in the litter, they won't grow anymore or almost. From my point of view (if I had bought thoses hamsters), they would be good for breeding.. But still I wonder if they're not too young? They're from my good line so I'm pretty sure they won't develop any problem.

I have other bucks but they're now full grown yet (althought they're older, you can tell they will grow...)

What do I do? I'm a bit lost about it.

If they are big enough to reach and big enough to want to try (!) then I am sure they will be fine - I've bred one of my boys at 10 weeks before and had a wonderful litter of 13, so I am sure it will not be a problem!

Good luck if you go ahead with it, let us know how it goes

I agree, I used a 12 week old boy and we had a good litter from him. The female was much bigger than him so it was quite amusing watching them but he was certainly willing and able. :P
Good luck.

Our Doodles was only just 9 weeks old when we mated him to Amelie to make the Doodlies (current thread in Breeding).

We too were very uncertain as to whether this was too young, but Doodles knew exactly what to do and performed well! We now have a 15 day old litter of very beautiful babies. I'm sure that your hammies will be absolutely fine at 12 weeks.
