Default Unexpected Delivery!

Hi, I am new here. So, here goes. Friday I took my daughter to a local pet shop and she picked out a beautiful Syrian lady. Well, this morning I woke to my daughter running in my room screaming that Ginger is having babies. The thing is here cage is two levels and one baby was at the bottom and Ginger was it the plastic house on the second level. I checked on them a little while later and one of the babies was wedged in the metal wires in the second level floor. Just minutes before I had read that you can scoop them with a spoon an put them back with their mother. I didn't see about rubbing the spoon in the bedding first. I scooped the two up and put them back in. I also gave her some toilet paper as she didn't have a nest made before their birth. She did pull it into the house. A little while later I came back and found 2 babies out of the house again. (not sure if it is the same 2). I then called the pet shop as soon as they opened and they told me to move the house to the bottom level. I did. I left the 2 babies outside the door of the house hoping she would bring them back in. She has not and it has been an hour or more. I am not sure if she is still birthing or if she is abandoning those two. I can't tell how many are in the house but I do know I saw three total. Not sure if the third is still alive or not.

That must have been a shock for you and Ginger
I would wait a little then try and spoon the pups in to the nest as they will not last long without mother's attentions I'm afraid. It is something that does happen so don't fret if she does not accept them back and you did your best with not touching them etc. She may also detect there is something wrong with them and this is why she is leaving them. If they are still wiggly then get them as near as you can to her. Birth usually takes around two hours so she may well gather them up soon.
Wire levels are really unsuitable for hamsters so a new cage is going to be required or lining this one with cardboard or lino but only when the pups are out with eyes open.
For now keep her very quiet and nobody should peek or bother her.
Feed some baby food or porridge and put it on the far side of the cage from the house. When she is out try and spoon the pups in to the nest. The house will soon be two small so give her masses of ripped loo roll to hopefully make an outside nest in. With any luck she will move them in the night.
Prepare yourself to accept whatever mother decides. She may raise all or some or may cull them all. It is hard when she is not tame or used to her new home really but don't worry as you are not the first nor will be the last. You can only try and make everything as quiet and peaceful for her as you can and cross your fingers.
Good luck and keep asking. We will guide you through.

Those two little ones are very active. They have squirmed all the way to the other sides of the cage. I am not sure now if Ginger took them out, or if they just squirmed out on their own since Ginger does not have an established nest. I scooped them up (on a spoon) and put them in the window of the house, in hopes that they won't just squirm straight back out the door. Here's to hoping. I can't believe how stressful this is!

Wow! What a shock. Souffle has given the best advise. Hope that things go well for mum, pups, and you and your daughter. What a surprise.

Just scooped out 2 pups that passed and I am pretty sure there is another dead one just in the edge of the house. When I was taking the other two out, I didn't see any movement with Ginger. Nervous that she has passed too but she may just be sleeping. Should I scoop out the 3rd one just inside the house?

I'm sorry to hear this
Do you mean Ginger isn't moving at all? It is normal for them to stay in the nest with pups all the time practically with only popping out for food and water.
If the pup at the door is clearly dead she must have placed it there so if it is easily scoopable then probably best removed. Try and tempt her out the nest first then scoop it out.
Put some baby food or something that smells to see if she comes out for it. I may be that she still has live pups she is nursing but if you fear she is sick then she is going to need checked. Let me know how you get on tempting her out.
Listen for little noises like squeaks, chirps or a little tic tic noice which is pups suckling.
