Question Quick question!

Hey again guys!

I know that no hamster is better than another, BUT for breeding, would you say it's easier to home Dwarf hamsters rather than Syrian because of the ability to house more than 1 until other homes are found?

Thanks guys!

I've never rehomed baby dwarves..but from hamster rehoming experiences, syrians have gone faster for me. Don't know why, guess because they're what people associate with the word hamster. However, syrian litters are often bigger than dwarves', so you'd have more to rehome and obviously only separately. Dwarves you might only get about 3-5, so i doubt they'd be too hard to find homes for either considering they can go in pairs.

I chose to breed Chinese as I love the species. Given all the work and heart ache that goes with the joys of breeding and owning hamsters, I'm glad I chose what I was passionate about. I wouldn't choose a colour/species I didn't like, e.g. cream Syrians are popular and show well, but they just don't do much for me.

I found my first litter harder to rehome, but by building a reputation and working towards good quality, healthy and tame hamsters it has become easier. I have more enquiries about Chinese than Syrians, but I am known as a Chinesey person!

That's really interesting!
I just don't want to be stuck with Syrians and have to cage them all desperately, I'd rather have dwarfs cause at least then I'll only have to seperate them due to their sexes. Hmm, it's a tough decision!

Unfortunately you're making a bit of an assumption there. Even dwarf hams can end up needing to be housed separately in the end (especially chinese).

That's not necessarily true - Dwarf hams need seperating a lot due to fighting.

Also, unless you have the room to house every hamster from a litter seperately, which could happen with Syrians that are getting older and dwarf hams that fight, breeding isn't something you should even consider
