Is My Baby Snow Pregnant?
Hi guys!
Well, lately I've noticed that my Snow is acting weird. She keeps on running and running and running like she's crazy (i Don't Know) . She lives with Pop and i really didn't intend to breed them... But i think she pregnant..(Woooohhh...I really don't know). her shape changed and she seemed to be fat right now....and she pouch a lot of food and put inside her little room.... whenever Pop would try to smell her or touch her she's so aggressive as if she wanted to always rid of Pop (Well She's Not like that before).
Does anyone know what are the common behavior of a ham whenever its pregnant?
Thanks

Re: Is My Baby Snow Pregnant?
Why would you have a male and female together if you didn't intend to breed them?
What kind of ham is she and how old? I would assume if her shape has changed then there is a high possibility that she is pregnant... if she's a dwarf and she's showing, then you're gonna have babies on your hands VERY soon!

They've been together for a month now while the other cage for Snow is not yet done... I'm Still gonna wait another week for the cage to be finished. =(
She's a Syrian...
I really have to separate her... I'll do it later when i get home from work... Huhuhu... Guess i need to buy a temporary cage for her...
Thank's Hadley

Re: Is My Baby Snow Pregnant?
Well she would certainly be fertile well before 3 months!
No wonder she wants rid of Pop - Syrians are solitary/territorial creatures!
Is Pop a Syrian also? Regardless, you must separate them immediately!

Re: Is My Baby Snow Pregnant?
You should never, ever keep Syrians together, especially male and female. You should have expected babies, since you put them together. Remove dad immediately, they could go off on each other at any moment. Even if you didn't have another cage, why would they be living together? You could've at least bought a temporary cage sooner. I understand that it was only temporary, but they still shouldn't of had ANY contact with each other.
Anyway, since she's probably already pregnant, make sure you don't disturb her when she does have them. At all. The littlest thing could set her off and make her eat them, and obviously you don't want that to happen. Make sure to feed her lots of protein, like the white part of boiled eggs, that was a favourite of my hamster HoneyDew when she had an accidental litter. Don't touch the babies until they're two weeks old, the scent of your hands could easily make mum eat them. It seems like she's gonna have birth soon, and my guess would be that dad is gonna eat the babies if he's still in the cage when they're born. Good Luck.

Re: Is My Baby Snow Pregnant?
no not later NOW
syrians should NEVER be housed together, chances are she is pregnant, are you prepared for a litter? i hope you have a decent vet fund stashed away incase of any complications, you are also going to need even more cages to seperate any babies into after they are weaned

Re: Is My Baby Snow Pregnant?
Do it NOW as already directed. Just put him in a storage box with some bedding, food and a bowl of water. He will be fine.
Your female may well kill him or he may kill the pups if she does not do that anyway because of the extreme stress she must be under. The running around is a sign that she is very stressed out. If you got the two hamsters together there is a good chance they are brother and sister and there may be problems with the babies.
Get him out. Give her a huge pile of ripped up tissue and a pile of food. cover her up and do not even look at her for 24hrs except a quick check to see she has settled.
