Re: "Blizzard" hamster
Welcome! PetFinder is a great site. One thing to keep in mind is that some shelters don't update their info regularly on-line, so you might find some hamsters by calling your nearby shelters and asking what they have.

Re: "Blizzard" hamster
well I just sent emails about the three hams in Bedford. I will see what kind of response I get. By the way, here is a memorial photo album of Tiberius: http://bit.ly/NiPgbi
He was the best hamster. Even the vet said she had never seen one so tame and friendly.

He looked very sweet indeed! A very handsome fella! I hope you will find another furry friend who will give you lots of great memories as well.

Re: "Blizzard" hamster
Thank you. I really prefer adoption. I have never bought an animal before and that has really been holding me back. I'm glad to have finally found a ham to adopt. I like the idea that I am saving a life instead of paying somebody to produce more "product."

Re: "Blizzard" hamster
I agree! My latest 4 hams are adoptees, and I am very grateful to have them. I can't imagine my Izzie being anyone else's now!
PS: if you like a particular ham, I'd call if your email doesn't get a reply soon. Calling usually turns out to be a lot more efficient, although I had pretty good luck emailing shelters before.

Re: "Blizzard" hamster
I adopted Tiberius from someone who bought him as an impulse buy. I never liked the way she treated him. She handled him too roughly (particularly when he had food in his cheeks... very bad) and his cage was way too small. I don't think they should even sell those tiny cages. He was behaving neurotically, climbing up the bars and chewing on one particular bar, over and over again. Once I moved him into his castle, that behavior stopped.

Re: "Blizzard" hamster
Good news everybody... I'm adopting a ham tomorrow! I made a new habitat tonight (which is awesome BTW) and I'm picking up the ham from the shelter tomorrow afternoon.
This is Camille: Petfinder Adoptable Hamster | Hamster | Bedford, NH | Camille
This is Vinny: Petfinder Adoptable Hamster | Hamster | Bedford, NH | Vinny
If I could keep them both, I would. I don't think any animals should ever be euthanized because there is nobody to take care of them. Alas, I can realistically only keep one, because I only have room for one habitat, and I don't need gladiator battles going on in there.
They both look so cute, not sure which I should take...
I will have pics of the new ham and the new habitat forthwith.

Re: "Blizzard" hamster
I know, I wish I could take them both. Even walking through the shelter and seeing the indigent animals will be gut-wrenching. I can't even allow myself to think about it too much because I will get emotional. I'm such a sucker :-/

Re: "Blizzard" hamster
Vinny looks so so sweet! I'm just slightly concerned if he's not feeling well or just sleepy, as his ears are down and he's squinty on both photos (but he could have just gotten up!) Edit: looking at the photos again, he just looks sleepy! He's too cute!
You could go with the girl vs. boy argument, as syrian boys tend to be more docile on average, it seems, and girls more hyper and lively It varies on individual basis, so you'd of course have to see for yourself. Good luck!!!
