Hamsters are animals!! they are live beings and simply asking a question about longevity of deformed hamsters implies that you intend to breed anyway and worry about it when they are born!! Perhaps it is a misunderstanding of language but it still worries me!
Ah, to me it implied that Kim had bred anyway and now had to worry as they were eyeless when born .

I was rather hoping it wasnt the case and it had all been a misunderstanding but unfortunatley, I know I'm not the only one! As you are thinking the same as me Willows mummy I think you are right! if we are then I feel utter sorrow for all of the hamsters involved!! I'm afraid I prescribe to the thought that "just because you can do something, it doesn't necessarily mean you should".
I would love to be wrong about this, but in the wrong hands animals are seen as commodities rather then loved as pets!

Kim bred on accident without thinking, but she decided that she won't breed again for awhile until she has shadowed another breeder where she lives. I think she's just trying to get information from people here since there are a lot of very experienced and knowledgeable breeders

Kim has bred Kimmy and has been touching the pups before their eyes have opened, but is apparently surrendering Kimmy and the litter to a breeder whilst she focuses on research. we are unsure as to whether she has actually surrendered them yet though.

Kim, it disappoints me that you plan on breeding hamsters as a refuge for your personal problems. I don't think bringing more lives, that won't necessarily find homes, from parents of poor stock (ie. not pedigree) is the answer for that. I'm sorry that you are going through what you are, but I agree wholeheartedly with whoever mentioned therapy. you need to talk to specialists about how you're feeling, rather than hole up and breed animals willy nilly.

I wouldn't call it an accident, since she purposefully put Kimmy and Hammy together to produce babies. I know that she now knows that it was a silly idea as she had not done her research, but she did choose to ignore all HC members' warnings against it.

Thank you for the responses. well, as I told before I couldn't surrender litter and the mom cause souffle told me they can't handle this move and all of them will die. But one of the pups survived and Im sure he is not eyeless, Because Kimmy was a self colored.

well, as I said before Im completely sorry because of my ignorance. That pregnancy was caused by a terrible event in my life, and at that time I couldn't think. Now im giving up breeding at least for a year.

I am under specialists helps, but its so hard to deal with problems like mine. :S But breeding as a refuge is being cruel and is not fair. I am agree with all of you.

well, Kimmy's breast had a problem and she couldn't give milk to the last pup. after calling vet to visit Kimmy in my home, vet said that it can be cancer and the pup must be weaned now. the vet took Kimmy with herself to a researching zone to give her special cares. today she called me and said that the case was not cancer and It was some thing that I didn't get. but It will be fixed tomorrow.
I have weaned the last pup currently. I think that pup is male. He is going to open his eye today(I hope so). He is so happy with lactose free milk and crushed barley for children.
So at least I am sure that one of the pups survived well. =) thank goodness.

Im not sure. Maybe 6 or 7. once I thought they are 8. I didn't look in the nest. But I dont know why Kimmy ate two of them which were fatty, healthy, covered with black fur.
Her environment were stress free. She had a good mix of food. and I didn't touch those two babies. but It was her first pregnancy. I red somewhere its normal for a hamster to kill all the litter in the first pregnancy. But ..... I did my best to stop that.

From tomorrow I will move Hammy and Kimmy (when I get Kimmy back) to my brother room. I will only look after Danny (the survivor) and let my bro and sister to look after Hammy and Kimmy. cause Im in my exam season and hard exams are forward.

Any disturbance to the nest or even the cage is enough to make some mother hamsters feel threatened and cull their young. Sorry for only one pup surviving, as it is a terrible learning experience but still a learning experience. The pup still has a long way to go though if its eyes are not open yet. Gender can be difficult to determine at such a young age for novices. Make sure the remaining pup gets lots of moisture rich foods.

I'm sorry to say it but while she may have killed those pups anyway theres a high chance that some dying was down to your inexperience Kim. You did a lot of things that increased the chance Kimmy would kill some of her babies. Its good that one survived though

And hard or not, problems just need to be faced. I'm saying this from the experience of a lot of people, but you have to decide - do you want to be brave, face your problems and get past them? Or do you want to hide behind the excuse that they're hard and let your problems destroy you?
If they're big problems thats the choice you'll have to make eventually, good luck finding the courage to face them and get past them.
