Re: In Above my Head - 2 Litters/3 Female Dwarfs
Aww what sweeties! Definitely hybrids The pups have a similar colouring to Sapphire Winter Whites but its not quite the same and thy are slimmer in shape than pure Winter whites The one climbing the bottle looks just like my Hybrid, Pippy!
Would it be possible to see some more photos of the black one? That one is most likely a hybrid too but very pretty all the same
Well done on taking care of them!

Probably hybrids, yeah. Although one of the pictures makes one of them look like she has Robo eyebrows, which was confusing for a moment.

I realized after reading my two posts, that I said 14 hamsters here, and 20 in my introduction post. I have 3 adult females here, 5 young babies, 4 newborns. I believe there are 4 or 5 males at the store and before I brought this tank home I took 3-4 Adult females out that didn't look pregnant. Though if they end up having babies as well, they will come home with me too. So I believe around 14 is the amount of dwarfs we were given.
One of the adult females and a younger baby keep wrestling? I'm not sure if that is what they're doing. The adult is on her back, wrestling with her front legs with the baby who is wrestling back, at her side, and nuzzling the adult's head and neck. They make noises while doing it. It's not distress squeaks, we've had more than a few (same gender) hamsters come in one group and start fighting, so I know what that looks like and sounds like. They make clicking noises, which is loud to the very soft squeaks my gerbils make.
Thanks again, everyone for the advice. I'm a little wary of separating the adult females as I really don't know who the mom is to the newborns.

They are indeed hybrids from the look of them, which can vary from looking more like campbells or more like winterwhite depending on how much of the pure species is in them. Your little ones look mostly campbells in colour and build.
Wrestling between younsters is normal and is usually play fighting. With adults it will be establishing hierarchy, and this will be more common in bigger groups. As long as no injuries occur and the fighting doesn't escalate, its not a problem. Pushing one hamster onto the back is what a dominant hamster does to the submissive hamster. They are often really vocal when fighting, but it usually sounds worse than it is.
Sending my best wishes for them all, any more questions do feel free to ask x

Re: In Above my Head - 2 Litters/3 Female Dwarfs
She is very sweet. The other two adult females have started to nip me or anything else that goes into the tank.
I have a trick when it comes to picking hamsters up without violating them, especially the attackers at the store. (The guys that work there all use leather gloves.) I get an exercise ball and put it in the tank, it usually wakes them up and they go over to sniff it, usually crawl inside. Then I pick the ball up and put my hand at it's opening, then the hamster walks onto my hand. Usually no biting involved. It takes patience sometimes, but 98% of the time I haven't been bitten by them.
That is what I did here, as well.

Re: In Above my Head - 2 Litters/3 Female Dwarfs
You look to be doing a fab job with the little colony
Sometimes females who are due to give birth or are nursing do get quite aggressive but they normally calm down again once the litters are weaned so you may be having some more little surprises!
They are very pretty babies and are likely hybrids with a lot of campbells in them

Re: In Above my Head - 2 Litters/3 Female Dwarfs
Awww, what a gorgeous little colony you have there! Well done on taking them home to care for them.
One method that it can be easier to pick them up by is to place some sort of tube into the cage that the hamster can go into and then you can lift it out and coax the hamster out where you wish to play/tame them.
I don't know if this is true for Dwarves as I've only bred Syrians but human baby food as well as eggs can be good for mums/pups and presume its the same for dwarves? Also, bread soaked in milk? I use special cat milk for mine so there is no lactose in it. I'd wait for a dwarf person to ok it though before doing it!
Good luck Keep us posted. Em x
