I agree with Roxie :/ You are bringing lives into this world - you have to take into consideration that they may suffer because you've bred them without knowing their background.

Why are you planning on breeding?

Never breed petshop animals. Their genetic history isn't good, they aren't necessarily the best examples of the species or colour. They tend to be on the small side, colours are usually diluted. You must accept more responsibility if you're serious about breeding.

Its not in a bad way, im just not going to go a petstore and say "hey i like that one it will go great with my breeding" No! if a person does that then they are not in it for the right reasons! I will look at each male very careful and i have a check list with me! I may not know his/her history but i will be very picky who i bring back home! I have been searching for months now for the right breeder! Its just that they are out of state for me! Im pretty sure if i really wanted to go back into breeding i would have been got a pair from the petstore!

Looking at the animal isn't enough. If you had any knowledge of breeding you would know that.

You can be as picky as you want but you'll never know what things are lurking in a Hamsters history if you buy from a Pet Shop. You don't know what suffering you could inflict on an animal.

I really hope you wake up and realise how irresponsible you sound. I really can't see anyone on this site wishing you well or condoning you with your breeding. Have a look at some of the videos on this site that show you the results of bad breeding, hopefully someone will link you to Pippys video. Maybe that will be the wake up call you need.

Im breeding to better the Syrians in my area, im not doing it just to breed. There is one pet store here that breeds their own pets! I may go to that one instead, since they will have the parents there!

Video found.

You really do need to know backgrounds. You'll have no idea what colours could be lurking as well or if it's masking a white bellied gene. It's really important that you listen.

How can you better Syrians if you don't the history of the Hamsters your breeding from? You could, most likely, make bad lines which make the Syrians in your area worse not better.

There's really no getting through to you is there? I really hope you don't find any Hamsters you deem "suitable" for their sakes and their babies sakes.

How can you possible breed better Syrians when you start with pet shop hamsters?

Why not source a breeding pair outside of your state if you cant find any where you are? Seems like laziness to me, going to a pet store instead of getting the healthest, happiest hamsters you can.

You don't really sound like you actually care about the hamsters, you seem to just care about your hobby. The wellbeing of the hamsters should always come first if you are to be a good breeder, and if you are willing to take a risk like that, you are not a good breeder and therefore surely no better than petshop breeders (which you seem to have something against?)
