My Maisie had pups
Long story short I bought a hamster from a pet shop. She looked quite big, so guessing she wasn't a very young hamster. Then I notice that she seems to be getting bigger by the day and is obviously pregnant. 11 days later on the 18th she gave birth.
The good news is I have had 3 litters before, one of which was also from a pregnant hamster I had bought from a pet shop, so I know what I'm doing.
Maisie is such a sweet little girl and is very trusting of me, which is pretty good. The babies are 6 days old now, and I was able to have a peek and try count them.
My count is around 19-20 ish, I may have double counted some, but this was a massive shock to me, even though I know Syrians can have 24 ish.
So yeah, in a few weeks, I will hopefully be able to count them properly and let you guys know how many there is.
This is the proud mummy taken about 3 days before she gave birth.

Haha, I have no idea if that's normal. At least for a first litter I wouldn't have thought 20, I'm assuming it's her first litter lol.
I will post pictures once they have their eyes open.
I honestly haven't a clue, I think I will keep one or two, or more depending on how well I can persuade my mum. I have a few friends who have said they will have one, or even two in some cases. I wish I had the space to keep them all, I love syrian hamsters so much

I seemed to miss your post for some reason
But yes, she does look young, but she's not tiny
Everything seems to be good so far, she wanted to come out earlier and seemed happy after I gave her a little cuddle.
Babies are squeaking away, it's so adorable.
I can't help but sit and watch from afar, even if it is looking through the tiniest gap of her house just to see them wriggle.

Re: My Maisie had pups
I meant to ask aswell, is that the Mini Duna cage? She would need an upgrade anyway but with a suspected 20 babies it's going to be really overcrowded. I'd make a bin cage so you can put her and the babies in it when they are a little older. I *think* it's okay to move them once eyes are open but I'll wait for a confirmation on that.
She'll need at least 80x50cm of space.

Re: My Maisie had pups
Yes, I think it is the Mini Duna, I just put her in there for safety for the time being.
With my other litters I handled them once they were two weeks old, so I should think it to be ok to move them
Thanks A bin cage will be in the making soon.

Re: My Maisie had pups
Ah, I see. I just don't want her to be crowded with such a huge amount of babies.
I recommend the 130l SAMLA box, it will suit her for the rest of her life:
SAMLA Box - transparent, 57x39x28 cm/45 l - IKEA
