separating baby hams? :/
The babies are 4 weeks old tomorrow (Friday) but some are still suckling :/ is it normal? i dont want to like separate them and their not fully like indipendant yet - i know they'll be in their own sex grouops but they look so YOUNG still! should i just sep. them tomorrow even if they are still drinking milk? its not all of them, just some sometimes go find Mimi and start drinking :/
Thanks

Re: separating baby hams? :/
They are probably just suckling for comfort rather than actually for milk.
Have you seen them eating the normal hamster mix?

Re: separating baby hams? :/
Hiya
the female babies can stay with the mother for another couple of weeks if she will still tolerate them and they dont start squabbling, but the males must be seperated when they are 4 weeks old as they can get their sisters and their mother pregnant!
The babies will still suckle for as long as they are with their mum really, but they are independent and can survive without their mother now so dont worry, they will be fine

Re: separating baby hams? :/
I would separate them now as mimi needs a rest and to recover from feeding the pups. They won't be getting much from her now and they can get sore nipples with big babies suckling.
It is best for them to learn independance now so they are ready for their new homes and you are not risking an unwanted pregnancy either.
